Didn't really know where to post this message but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction

Brief history: DH & I have 2 sons and the youngest has Down's Syndrome. He is 11 months old. We live in Gran Canaria & there are no English speaking Speech Therapists on the island. He could have speech therapy in Spanish but it would mean (so we've been told) he wouldn't be able to speak English as children with Down's cannot cope with two languages.

Can you help?

Oh. Well ask if he has been trained as a salt.
Obv. can't advise on how things are done in Spain but he needs to be seen before November. Time is of the essence. Most work is effective when kids are young.

Moondog - will definitely ask when I next see him.

Hi Soph73
Have seen some of your posts on the FOOC thread. There are quite a few of us with bilingual speech-impaired DCs. My DD doesn't have DS, but a language disorder (more like ASD). I've been lucky in that (most) people have encouraged us in having her bilingual. She is EMT but at French school and now aged nearly 5 French is JUST coming.
Just thought I'd say "hi" and let you know that there's quite a few of us out there!

BriocheDoree - hi and thanks for that. I've been researching like crazy recently and it really is heartening to read about children who do manage to cope with two languages even though they have problems. I've now had some info translated and I'm going to make an appointment with the speech therapist to try and get Sam's therapy restarted asap.
