DS1 is 3 in May and is currently sleeping in his cotbed turned bed. Unfortunately its broken so we need to get him a new bed so do we....

A - get him another toddler bed and use the mattress we already have so a cheaper option. (Does anyone know at what age can they sleep in a toddler bed?)
OR
B - get him a single bed which is more costly as we'll need to buy a new mattress too.

DS2 is 4 months old and although they can each have their own room we are thinking that one day they may want to share and we get them bunkbeds. Not sure if its worth taking that into consideration right now.

Thanks!

Hi, I have my DS1 in a toddler bed. The one i have can be used until the child is approx 5 yrs. Guess though it depends on the weight of the child too.

Single bed more costly now, but way better value. You can keep the mattress and put it on the bunkbeds later on, which you wouldn't be able to do with a cotbed mattress. Also, you can use the single bed as an adult bed in a spare room if necessary.

Try freecycle or local paper for replacement bed frame. If it's only the frame you can thoroughly clean it and use your own mattress.
Then you can get bunks which can be split and used as 2 singles when finances permit.
