Ok, I thought this was meant to start as 2. Clearly nobody has told my ds this.

We have just had another screaming meltdown over the fact that he couldn't have the pen when I was signing him out of nursery.

He also has started throwing things like muslins and toys and then having a tantrum when they aren't picked up for him. My rule is I pick up once then explain that if he does it again he loses it.

He does again, I stick to my word and he goes bright red and screams until I think he is actually going to explode.

I am managing to cope and keep my temper (amazingly - I usually have quite a temper on me but have worked hard to moderate it) but jesus its hard work.

Any ideas on how long I can expect this one to persist??? I reckpon we have about 4 or 5 incidents a day at the moment and it seems to be escalating.

it lasts as long as it lasts, i'm afraid. Once his language skills develop more, he won't be so angry / frustrated.

I think you're going about it the right way- as long as he's not going to hurt himself, i'd stay firm and calm and leave him to it.

My DS (19 months) has started to do this in the last few days.

It's driving me maaaaaaad ! He's usually so sweet-natured and affectionate, but he has hit me several times in the last few days, squeals constantly and screeches when I, for example, take him off the swing to let another child have a long-overdue turn/won't let him play with my phone/insist he puts hi coat on.

I tell him he's only going to get to throw things once, and that hitting is not allowed, and all that stuff. But have sneaking suspicion he's too small to understand. Sigh.
