My 7year old D.s has unfortunately inherited a bit of the green eyed monster that has occasionally plagued my life. Although to all intents and purposes a quiet and obedient child, not at all leader of the pack,he has really taken against a new boy in his class, who is very gifted and very popular. There was a squabble in the yard today, and my D.s hit the other little boy,and was of course punished.Has anyone any advice on how I can help him deal with this?

i asked my daughter to draw a team of her classmates that would win in a quiz or sports day, to demonstrate how all the different abilities they had came together i.e you've practiced most at spelling but billy has at maths, or your really fast at running, but billy jumps higher
i also told her how circumstance changes things ie if billy has a happy meal for lunch he won't jump as high today. if you're tired you'll forget spellings.
check if he has given himself the responsibility of being perfect and the best at everything and is comparing himself against others rather than against his own personal best.
