Poor constipated dd-please help!

I am sure that dd is constipated. She is 8 months old, has been on solids for approx 2 months and I still bf her. She is crying, straining and passing tiny pellets of hardish poo. Normally her bowel movements are fine. I am sure that this is constipation. I have just fed her prune puree which she wolfed down so I'm hoping this will work. Her poor bottom is sore so I have put cream on it. Have tried giving her boiled water. My mum swears by brown sugar in water Any other tips please. Poor dd is suffering.

Lots of juice and fruits such as apricots and prunes.

Would use suppositories as a last resort tbh as they are not pleasant for you or her.

If it is an on going problem go and see your GP as they can help with medication.

DD used lactulose from six months from the GP and in the past few months has moved onto Movicol. It is horrible for them but can be managed well if an ongoing problem. Good luck.

thank you. for your advice- we just had a bit of pained crying followed by a much larger lump so i think things are moving along so to speak!

I think avocados and dried apricots always seem to cause very full nappies sharpish!

hi there

how you got with the constipation?

we have found problems too when weaning ,juice does help at least 2-3 times a day at least 2-4oz at time ,we use orange or apple diluted of course.Plus one weetabix alternate days and those fruit purees pots though we have found now we have to mix them with yoghurt at the mo.

How well out of interest has the prune juice worked?

Tc hope it resolves it,s self soon.
