Please tell me i am not the only one who didn't buy my 4 year old a DS Lite or Wii for Xmas.

Am i naive to think my son is too young for these? Why are we all in such a hurry for our kids to grow up?

what makes you think that most 4 year olds got a ds for xmas?

i didn't either... our wii is hidden from him...

but nanny did get him a leapster for his birthday!

i'd love a wii though.

Ds1 is 8 and doesn't have one, if that makes you feel any better. We're thinking of a Wii for Xmas but not a hand held thingy.

Mine certainly didn't and neither did any of the 4 year olds she knows.

i didn't either. however, my nearly 4 year old DS2 uses Wii sports

I think your ds class is unusual - perhaps they have older siblings

My 8 and 14 year old have DS but not a Wii - I don't see the point and they haven't asked for one. All the 8 yr old is obsessed with is very expensive lego!

I have a 5yo who didn't get one. She doesn't want one either (well, she doesn't now what they are I think).

She got a few books and a pretty skirt and a mirror with a butterfly frame. All from second hand shops.

DD got one for Xmas - but she is 9; had to wait a while, poor thing.

ds would not have a clue what either one of those is at 4.5 so no he didn't get them for xmas.

My DD (3) asked for one "because Megan has got one"

I asked her what it was

She said "Its like a tiny little telly and it has cartoons and stuff"

So I pointed out that she had her own little telly (its actually my portable DVD player, that we use in place of a DVD player) and her answer was "and thats bigger than Megans"

She didnt ask again.

(I did however ask Megans mum why she bought one - her answer "Well everyone else has got one and I didnt want Megan to be left out"

yes, being left out at 3 is terrible and will lead to years of therapy.

I don't know about 3 year olds but I do know of 5 and 6 year old with them.

I think it is too much money and I don't want DS getting onto the "must have latest console every Christmas" treadmill.

DS hasn't asked for one but we already have a Wii and we did get Mario Cart as a family gift.

i just brought one fordd birthday shes going be but shes been asking over year, we do hve ps2 and wii but do have 2 ds12&15

I have bought one 2nd hand for dd2's 4th birthday as she loves playing on her cousins when we visit. As long as she plays with other toys and doesn't sit staring at it all of the time i cant see the problem. Would never have paid full price though.

DS is 5 and didn't get either of them for Christmas. I think some children in his class may have done though.

Ds,5, and dd, 7, got Wii Sports for Christmas. I was dead against it until we all played on one at my brother's house. It's been an absolute Godsend for my very active ds on winter days when we can't go out. Pre-Wii he was like a caged animal, but there's nothing like a few bouts in the boxing ring to wear him out. We've also had lots of games together as a family and the grandparents (all very sporty in their day) love playing the kids at tennis. Not all keen on the Nintendo DS though on the grounds that it is solitary and not at all active.
