Hi

I have just managed to get a hysterical child to bed cause there was a spider in the bath and DH decided he was going to show him it so that he wouldnt be scared!!!

Well it didnt go down very well with DS 2.1 who shot across the bath, managed to scramble out and then after trying to calm him down and tell him that spider had gone home to bed, he wouldnt go back in the bath and now I probably have a child that is scared off Spiders and Baths!!!!

Sorry rant over.

I had a male classroom assistant working with me a couple of years ago who told the year ones that spiders drink saliva from your mouth at night. Cue several very peeved phonce calls from mothers whose dcs refused to go to sleep!

Not just men though - my grandmother thought the way to get us over our silly fear of sp*ders was to pick up the really large hairy ones and wave under our noses saying 'look it's more scared of you'.

I just threw up a little in my mouth.

The NHS do therapy if you are seriously scared of spiders. It involves adopting one, taking it home in a jar and feeding it leaves to befriend it. I am not making this up. I have a friend for whom it really worked.

Spiders are meat eaters. Feeding them leaves would not help you to make friends!

Thanks UQD - I think I'll stick to finding high ground and throwing heavy books at them

at Unquiet Dad's NHS!

Having checked it's not April 1st I am still picking my jaw up off the floor...

(Pictures NHS nurses running round hospital grounds with jars, trying to coax the eight-legged ones in... or do they pay a special spider supplier?)

I helped my kids over it by showing them this. We then named the next spider we found
