Help! (sorry it's long one)
I really want to study something while I'm on maternity leave, and possibly after I go back to work. I am looking at this as a chance to do something different as I won't be back at work full time for ages.
Are there any budding careers advisors out there? I have always felt a bit directionless, and feel the more jobs I try, the more areas I am exhausting without finding my 'niche'. Given the choice I would go back to full time uni in a heartbeat but we just can't afford it, and of course without knowing what career I really want, it's a bit pointless.
History to date.......
I studied the first year of a maths & stats degree, then left as I was skint and disillusioned.
I then worked as a nurse for a year and did some training through that (biology is my first love), but quit when I decided I wanted a life and shift work was eating up too much of my time.
I now work in legal support for the council. They have offered me further training but I'm afraid it just doesn't grab me!
I'm currently studying the openings course 'understanding children' through the OU but I'm not enjoying it much (the subject matter is not really my thing).
I would welcome suggestions - I looked into several OU courses starting in Feb but decided to wait as I'm full term now with DC1 and no idea what to expect in terms of time availability! I like science but am more of a dabbler, rather than wanting to study a subject in a huge amount of depth. I'd prefer coursework to exams. Health has always interested me, and I've always been fascinated by forensics, meteorology and geohazards. I also like stats and languages.
I'd like to do something that wouldn't necessarily be career changing, but that would be interesting to me and useful for when DC(s) go to school and need help with homework. Education courses always look interesting but it's not really possible to do them for personal interest if you aren't working in a school setting. I'd prefer a course that leads to a qualification, something that can be done at a distance and that won't take years to complete. I can't do a masters as I have no first degree.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give....
