Gateau you can just reframe TV in your head as:

  • essential preparation for a screen-based future
  • teaching about technology
  • exposure to well-crafted educational input
  • ensuring shared cultural experiences with the majority of their peers
  • intensive language input
  • exposure to images of children from different backgrounds etc etc!

I have felt the same guilt about TV for ages, but no-one would complain if it was loads of exposure to theatre or opera! So long as they do other things too I've stopped worrying about it.

Oh, I am feeling less and less guilty about telly watching as time goes on! I used to feel really bad about sticking it on when one of us was sick/when I had a few things I had to do, but now not nearly so bad. Until the winter there, we had rarely had it on and I was quite smug, but tbh I think I was just daft now! No harm in giving yourself a break from time to time.

As already said, it is fine in moderation, as are sweeties!
