What should 7 month old poo look like?

My LO is having 1-2 screaming fits in the day, arching back and inconsolable and we are trying to figure out the reason. He is pooing once or twice a day but it is quite solid poo and we were wondering if he was suffering from constipation. So, and i am really sorry about this question, what should 7 month old poo look like?

thanks.

at 7m dd was bf and barely eating any solids so her poo was mostly about the consistency of, er, yoghurt. Or mustard. With occasional lumps of carrot

they've got steadily more solid till now (18m) they are like, well, normal human poo.

is he ff though? often ff poos are more solid than bf ones.

thank you for your reply, he has 3 FF and 2 BF a day with 3 smallish meals.

are you offering water with meals?
if not it's a good idea

and some things are notorious for bunging them up - baby rice and bananas, for example

We have tried to increase his water intake with meals and given him plums/prunes/apricots and no bananas. As I say I am not 100% sure it is constipation but not sure what else it could be that is so painful. thanks for your suggestion.

DS2 was breastfed up until 4 months and then put onto sma. We also started to wean and despite him drinking bits of water and having veg purees he got constipated. A couple of mum's said that cow and gate formula stopped this, so I have used cow and gate since, and he hasn't been consitpated since. If he is on a different milk it could be worth a try possibly?

Are you giving baby rice? Stop anything fortified with iron and that will probably do it. To get more water into him, make the formula bottle you know he'll drink all of up with extra water. Just one ounce should help.

DS's poo is fairly solid most times (7 1/2 months) and no indication that anything is wrong.

Could he have wind? Is there any pattern to his screaming fits - after meals etc?

thanks for all the replies.

mumoftoby - we use cartons of formula (lazy) but will try cow and gate to see if this helps.

ches - no baby rice, he has one jar of baby food a day but the rest is all finger food and mostly fruit and veg, but no banana.

bitofadramaqueen - no seeming pattern but will try doing the circly thing with his legs next time he has a screaming fit incase it is wind.
