Quick question - how many pre-washes do BGs need?

I'm used to bamboo which needs 10 to reach full absorbency. Presumably Bumgenius will need less, but how many?

I only did mine once, I don't think the synthetic fibres need multiple pre-washes.

NorktasticNinja · 19/02/2009 13:57

Bonus! I suppose that makes up for the nasty synthetic feeling of the microfibre then

I think it's the overnight drying that makes up for the nasty feeling, for me anyway. But there are limits, I sent little lamb microfibre nappies back because I couldn't bear touching them.

Just the one, to get rid of any factory finishes on them.

My fingers are prickling at the thought of microfibre though.....it is a horrible fabric to touch.

swampster · 19/02/2009 17:34

I don't mind the BG microfibre but Fluffles and Little Lambs really set my teeth on edge!

I'm glaed it's not just my dry skin then! Anyone know why this fabric has that funny feeling?

Because it is weirdy artificial stuff - but well good at soaking up wee.

With our nappies that were meant to be prewashed lots of times, I didn't have the patience and was worried about wasting my washes etc. I just washed once or twice and then used them, BUT changed DD much more often wearing them to start with as I knew they wouldn't have full absorbancy. We usually get second hand though which saves that problem!

Flamesparrow · 20/02/2009 08:49

Yup just the once to get rid of factory residues

NorktasticNinja · 20/02/2009 18:46

Thanks all! What do you do about stuffing them? DD isn't a heavy wetter but I can't imagine a single microfiber booster being enough... I've tried them but didn't dare for more than an hour

Do I actually need to buy special boosters for pockets? I've got quite a stash of two-parter boosters already (baminex) bamboo, (tots) cotton and (ella's house) hemp, can I use those?

I'm really struggling with them being and feeling so horribly synthetic (and thin )TBH, I'm so used to my bamboo. I really hope I can learn to like them, they seem so much slimmer and more convenient than what I've been using. Ho hum.

Well, I tried the BG that was in our pack for the first time this evening, and it's performed really well! Used both the microfibre inserts, 'cause I've come to the conclusion that DD is a heavy wetter (Magicalls didn't stand a chance!), and she's pretty impressive in the other department too (formula fed)!
I put the nappy on at about 6.45, and it's just been changed at about 11.15. I make that 4 1/2 hours - wow! The inserts were very wet, but the solids came off the fleece lining really easily.
I may just have to buy some more of these!

JoLucy · 20/02/2009 23:37

Oh dear, sorry about the multiple !s

NorktasticNinja · 21/02/2009 10:25

I tried ours for about 2 1/2 hours this morning with the big microfiber insert and a bamboo booster. I think it could have handled another couple of hours really, but it seemed a bit cruel to put it back on again. I'm liking them more and more (sooo slim) but still struggling to dare an all synthetic nappy [luddite emoticon]

I shall be brave and try properly with both MF inserts this afternoon. They are blatantly great nappies

I've just been using the big mf insert that came with it, though I could use the little one too I suppose. We had a big leak yesterday, which I think was due to operator error in me not checking the insert, it must have got bunched up during my multiple attempts to catch dd and put it on her.
