Birthday present for 3yr old DD...??

What on earth did you give your DD/DS for their 3rd birthday...?

I'm sure just asking this makes me a bad mother (shouldn't I KNOW this instinctively??) but I just don't know what to get my DD for her birthday next week. She doesn't have a tricycle so I'm thinking about that. Reviews on here suggest the Berchet ones are best...? Another thought is a decent dolly - like a Zapf-type one - I'm expecting in June and she's very into babies...

All she wants when I ask is "sunglasses!"

Inspiration welcome!

Big hits for my dd have been her Corolle baby doll, toy kitchen, easel, scooter and doll's house.

Good god what a lot of Stuff she has.

DippyDino · 18/02/2009 20:32

My dd is 3 in April...

I have got her:

A wooden trainset (Brio compatible thingy)
ELC 'guitar'
'Rosies Car' - ELC small doll with car thingy
A magnifying glass
Moonsand
ELC Fairground set

She won't know what to do with them all

She wants a skateboard and Lego but she's a bit young yet.

(Guess who went bonkers in ELC January sale...)

I would buy her some sunglasses.
3 year olds are odd (mine has been attached to a pink spade (40p) all week and has taken it everywhere, even to bed. Doon't buy loads of tat just cos you think you should. A bike is a really useful present. All those dolls are creepy. My dd has a Chou Chou and a Baby Annabel, and keeps leaving them strewn across the floor in a naked tangled mess, and I have to constantly make them comfortable because they are so realistic.

Maybe buy her a baby when your baby arrives?

gigglewitch · 18/02/2009 20:37

my dd was 3 in december. we spent an afternoon at the "build a bear" workshop - that was our lovely day out and she hasn't put the bear down since.
she also got roller skates - nooo i mean the tri-skates from early learning, complete with pretty much full body armour
she got a bicycle with stabilisers from her grandparents at christmas, reasonable price and will last her much longer than a tricycle. And there's a 'baby seat' for the dolls on the back

manyhatson · 18/02/2009 20:42

I was wondering about a bike rather than a tricycle... Hmm, interesting...

I also HATE those dolls. I never was a dolly kind a gal, although at 38 I still sleep with a teddy

My ds was 3 in November and his best best present was his scooter - a mini micro scooter - quite pricey but so worth it. He now goes everywhere on it and it's bliss as we don't need the buggy and don't have to walk at snail's pace!

gybegirl · 18/02/2009 21:00

We have an old bike I bought at a car boot but our DD, who's 3 next month, is clueless with it so we've bought her a (cheap) trike. She knows she's getting one and is very excited about it.

I'd get sunglasses and if you want to get her something else maybe playdoh.

Her christmas magnifying glass also went down well.

squeaver · 18/02/2009 21:00

What about a scooter?

Thankyouandgoodnight · 18/02/2009 21:03

Sunglasses
Umbrella
Medical Set (Amazon)
Magnetic Doll (ELC - magnetic clothes go on a flat shape of a doll...)
Sparkly bag

Thankyouandgoodnight · 18/02/2009 21:04

A balance bike (one of those wooden ones without pedals)

blametheparents · 18/02/2009 21:07

DD is 4 soon, but would love an afternoon in the Build a Bear workshop on the day of her birthday. Can't think of anything much to buy her so that would be lovely for her, thanks for the idea.

For a 3yo I think a scooter is a fab idea, esp with the spring and summer coming..
DD also really liked her Fisher Price snap and style doll that she got for her 3rd birthday, like this

zippy539 · 18/02/2009 21:20

If I was doing it again I'd get a blance bike like thank you suggests.

bodiddly · 18/02/2009 21:27

another vote for the micro scooter .. ds' best present ever! it means no more whinging when he gets tired out walking etc and he LOVES it!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/02/2009 21:27

DD turned 3 a couple of weeks ago. Good presents that she had for either Christmas or birthday include a scooter (micro mini - she adores it and uses it all the time), these skates, this CD player, a kids camera and a load of dressing up stuff.

zippy539 · 18/02/2009 21:27

Duh. Balance bike obviously. Every kid I know who has had one has loved it and learnt to ride properly AGES before other kids on stabilisers. Other choice would be a toy cooker.

Lilyloo · 18/02/2009 21:28

lolo at Gemmie having to care for dolls

dd just turned 4 loves her build a bear as does ds but beware the clothes are really expensive!

sheena1 · 18/02/2009 21:57

my dd is 3 in 3 weeks and i have got her a dora the exploorer v smile and a playhouse

manyhatson · 27/02/2009 14:54

OK - it's her birthday today and we bought her the Puky balance bike. She loves it! And the sunglasses obviously

Thanks for all the suggestions.
