Nappy rash or something else?

DD is 20 weeks and occasionally gets what I assume is mild nappy rash (little pinprick type rash) which we usually clear up pretty fast with nappy-off time and sometimes some soothing balm.

Yesterday I changed her (very full) nappy to find most of her bottom is a livid pink colour - it looks as though she's been pooing acid. Today it's still pink and feels quite rough and dry. She wasn't in the dirty nappy for any length of time. Put on some Sudocreme yesterday and some balm today and will proceed with nappy-off time asap but just wanted to check that this was actually nappy rash or something else. She's been quite tetchy today so wondering if it's bothering her. Poor little thing, I've not seen anything like it before

TIA.

Sometimes my dd's got this sort of rash, it usually was when they started teething, could this be the case?

When my ds's nappy rash wouldn't clear up with Metanium, which is usually fab, my health visitor diagnosed thrush and prescribed some cream- it was clear within 2 days so it might be worth getting it checked out.

Thanks for the replies

Teething is a possibility, in that she's chewing and dribbling, but then she's been doing that for months and nothing seems to be happening (and I'm still bfing so firmly in denial that she's ever going to get teeth!).

I was wondering if it could be something fungal. Need to go into town tomorrow so will try to pick up some metanium, then there's a HV clinic on Wednesday if she still has it.

It's so sad seeing her lovely little bottom so pink and angry-looking!

it's horrible isn't it. But if you have metanium and the chance of a HV visit then it should be cleared up in no time? Do you use disposables or washables? I found that when I started using a paper liner in our washables to catch the poo (lovely eh?!) was when the problem started so I do think that probably irritated him somehow. We're back to just plain cloth now and have had no problems.

She's in cloth pretty much all the time now and using cloth wipes too (though having said that, I think the toxic poo which seemed to cause this was in a disposable).

Lot less pink this morning but when I wiped her lots of bits of skin came off

She has just pooed during nappy-off time, so better go!
