ds is on his 4th day without nappies. Fri-sun went very very well but want to see how it went at nursery today before I breathe out!

Since fri he has just worn trousers - no nappy no trainer pants no normal pants. I thought maybe pants might confuse him, he may think it's a nappy?? but wonder at which point I should (all going well) introduce them?

Or did you just go straight to pants and not worry about it?

TIA

ds1 went straight to pants and he was fine, still had accidents of course, but it didnt seem to confuse him, i think if you go between nappies and pull ups it can cause confusion but pants are very different to nappies, so i'm sure he'll be fine.
Congrats by the way, sounds like he's doing great

we did an in-between stage with pull up nappies when ds was getting used to using the potty/toilet. When he was reliable at saying he needed to pee/poo I put him into pants and trousers. Just remember to buy plenty and take spares with you when out and about.

We did a few days bare bummed, then a couple of days with knickers. She wasn't confused by the knickers but was confused when we put trousers on top. So we did a day or two with a skirt and knickers then trousers the next day and she got the idea.

I think that if he understands he still has to use the potty/toilet with trousers on he'll be fine with pants.

We did a little while (about a week I think) with DS going commando, because he freeked at the idea of either nappies or pants.

Then I got pants with pics of cars and aeroplanes on them, and we never looked at a nappy again! We did leave it till he was about 2.8 to begin training though.

I think pants are so very different to nappies that it is not confusing at all.

Yes, both times straight from nappies to pants, no obvious confusion!

lol nuttygirl - not sure if the skirt and pant combo will work

thanks all. Just spoke to dh and he said ds did great, no accidents! That makes 2 accidents in 4 days (none yesterday or today - so far).. not going to pack away the nappies just yet but have to say I am so very proud of him (total pfb moment! )

I went and bought some bob the builder pants at lunch so here's hoping...

Pack away the nappies because going back to nappies once you have made this step can cause confusion. There may be accidents but stick with it - sounds like he is doing great.

DD decided when she wanted to start wearing pants - we didn't really plan it. We had bought pants in preparation and one morning she insisted on wearing them so DH put them on over nappy - typical man didn't explain to nursery staff so when I went to pick her up I was told she had been brilliant and had no accidents. I hadn't a clue what they were talking about.

Only time we used nappies after that was in early stages if we were on a bus for a long journey but told her it was to keep her warm.

Good luck with it.

thanks.. i agree that putting him back in nappies will confuse him and he seems to have got the idea. It´s just that he´s only tiny (21mo) so can´t quite believe the nappies might be behind us!

I am still putting him in a nappy for naps and night time but nursery told us they won´t do naptime nappies - it´s all or nothing. He slept there today without one so i guess it´s up to them, should i carry on with this at home (naps only though) aswell then?

DD1 freaked out at knickers so she went commando for a few weeks until I bought her boys pants with cars on
After a week of them she was fine in any knickers.

For naptime I used to put a changing mat under her (she napped on sofa) and make her go on the potty strfaight before and try straight after, but never had a problem
