my 2 week newborn feeds near enough every 2/3 hours. if i dont feed her she crys. i think she is comfort eating cos when i gave her a dummy (once) she was happy as larry! the problem i have is that my 3 and half year old has just swapped her dummy for 2 guinea pigs. i dont want to b in that situation again.

does anyone have any advise on how to introduce a dummy without them getting too dependant on it, and the ideal age to the wean them off it.

im still in two minds as to wether i should give it to her or not.

please help

My Health Visitor said they should never have it when they're actually asleep, just when they're going to sleep, and you should go cold turkey when they're 1. However my DS is nearly 3 and still won't sleep without it, and my DD is becoming an addict too.

I can't stand the things. However I caved in with both.

I have a 15 month old and a 4 year old - they both love their dummies - my 4 year old won't have his in public but won't go to bed with out it - tried father christmas, the dummy man, but he just won't give it up! My 15 month old love's hers too and likes one in her mouth and one in her hand when she goes to sleep!

Would love them both not to need them - but don't feel that will ever happen. Thinking I'll wait till my daughter reaches 2 and then bin them all!

Every 2-3 hours to feed is normal at this age. You need to feed her.
