Babywearers: anyone made their own ring sling?

Have acquired 2.5m of beautiful grey raw silk at knock-down price. Have ordered sling rings, and I know where to find online patterns.

Thing is, I do not have a sewing machine and am not great at sewing, although I can cope with repairs etc.

Could I try to do this myself by hand? I did really want to.

Or are those little handheld sewing machines any good?

Or should I admit defeat and take the pattern and fabric to the seamstress shop opposite me?

Go for it! I've made ring slings for my dds to use with their dollies, and I also made one for the barbie doll to carry her baby. I used curtain rings. I think this is a good way of practising before you have a go at the silk you've bought. Or else practise on other material?

I would do it by hand. Do you have a pattern? I'm sure there are patterns on this website.

I've never made my own ring sling though because I don't get on with them. I prefer my other slings.

Will be watching this thread with interest; any recommendations for the best pattern?

I will be going to (at least) a Christening and a wedding this year so I want to make myself a beautiful sling to take DS in!

CherryChoc, don't want to make you dribble but I bought the silk after seeing the BabyPockets slings (SAHM in Alaska who stitches the most glorious raw silk ring slings with embroidery). If it cost less than £55 to get one to here, I had fewer slings already and DS wasn't 18 months I'd have had it - this is my attempt to recreate.

Ooh they are nice frazzledgirl, I think I could make one far cheaper though and have a few months to do it in so thanks for the inspiration
