Which nappies for chunky babes?

I would like to 'take the cloth' but after hours of research my head is spinning with nappy info and I'd appreciate some words of wisdom from any real nappy experts out there.
DS is 8 months old and has an ample derrière and super chunky (gorgeous) thighs. I've tried him in cotton Tots Bots which gave him a bit of a Cyril Smith look and diminished his clothing options to 1 pair of trousers or babygros! Is this to be expected with all cloth nappies and do I need to be buying much bigger trousers? They also seemed to give him a red, sore patch at the front. I'm not sure if this was related to my folding technique of the integral booster flap thing causing friction (or possibly teething related - he often seems to get red bum when a tooth is sprouting).
I think I'd be happy to go with the shaped, 2 part system if I can get the flap folding a bit better but am open to all suggestions / advice. Also wondered if I should try a nappy trial scheme - I'm in south Manchester if anyone can recommend a good local advisor.

Hi Monsterma
lol at your description of DS with Tots Bots. I know what you mean I also have a chunky gorgeous 5 month old DD and the Tots Bots do seem to limit the clothing options. Motherease Sandys seem quite slim for her but you need a wrap. Also Wonderoos with the hemp insert and slim fitting too. HTH

ds is also chunky. we use bumbles and motherease wraps (now on the xl size age 20 mths). wrt trousers i have started using larger trousers and rolling them up, as i can't do up many of his 18-24 mth ones when he is in cloth nappies.

DD is ginormous (lovely rolls of fat on her thighs - she gets that from me ). Our favourites have been Lollipop (like Tots Bots) microfibre (DH's favourite) and BumGenius (my favourite), both of which seem to fit fine. She's also in size 2 Fluffles at night which are absolutely huge on her and mean she can't bend in the middle, so possibly a bit of growing in to do (she's 19 wks and 15 lb 9 oz at last count) but no leaks so far.

BGs are definitely slimmer fitting than a two-part nappy ime - occasionally can't do up her sleepsuit but most things seem to fit (she has some wonderful trousers sent by my cousin in NYC which are called "Comfy roomy pants" - I want some for me!).

Try www.thenappyline.co.uk They do trials which are taylor made for you, and are very helpful.

hi i have a very wet 6mth ds,he's sooo chunky with lots of rolls on his thighs, lol, i have been using little lambs and love them, we have never had a leak, and at night i add a booster he goes through the night from about 10pm till 7.30 am without leaking, monsterma, i agree with the problem of fitting trousers on , i have to buy him 9-12 months so the trousers dont look like overstuffed cushions at the front

i have a chubby dd - 5 months, long, and 20lb, with awesome thigh rolls! we use thirsties in the day and size 2 tots bots at night. thirsties are fairly slim fitting. her sleepsuits and trousers are 12-18 months but that is more due to her size than the nappies!
