7 mth DD won't settle at night for DP - any ideas to overcome this?

She's very happy with DP in daytime, but after bedtime she only wants me, even though I try not to feed her between 7 and 11. So she wakes usually just to see me, have a pat on the hand and back to sleep . She's terrible at waking hourly at the moment, and I'm desperate for some time off. Plus I'm getting miserable at turning down social things, and feeling a bit like I'm being judged for creating such a clingy baby already.

Is my only option to just go out for the evening and then she has to cope with a cuddle from DP? I can't bear the sound of her crying, as its the worst I've heard from her. Or are there gentler ways to do this?

Please anyone help!

Hi kayjayel - I too had this problem with my DD although she was a bit older when this was an issue for us. I had my bedtime routine with her, DH just said good night and the rest was up to me. If I did go out, she would settle in his arms but not sleep and watch him play on the computer (grrrrrr)and by the time I came back she would still be awake. Used to really annoy me, seemed he just wanted an easy life. I then insisted on him having the same bedtime routine as me and after a couple of time, it did actually work. I think its good for them to realise that its always the same routine, same cuddles etc, no matter if its Mummy or Daddy.

Good luck.

Hi schnullerbacke. So did it just take a few times and then she was fine? And was it screaming melt down or not? Our routine needs some work, its mainly me bfing her, then into the cot. To be honest I'd be fine with her staying up playing for one night if she didn't scream and I got a night out!
