My baby's squeaks are driving me nuts. What does she want?

My DD is 5 months. She does incredibly high pitched squeaks when she's playing. For weeks I have told myself this is just a happy baby learning to 'sing', but the truth is it gives me a bad headache and it goes on for hours. Is she bored? She mostly squeaks when she's playing on the mat with her toys and baby gym. She doesn't squeak when we're out in the buggy or if daddy is in the room (typical!). I mean, I think when something really holds her interest she is quiet, but I just can't be that interesting all day long!

When you track down that Baby/English dictionary post me a copy! Mysterious little critters...

I asked the wrong question, I don't really need to know what the squeaks mean, just are they normal, do other mums find their baby's sounds really annoying? Maybe I should have posted this on the mental health thread???!!

she's just vocalising, finding her voice, playing.

My DD (10 months) grinds her teeth - it is excruciating to listen to!

mumof2andabit · 27/01/2009 13:38

My dd squeals. It breaks the sound barrier, she does it when she is frustrated etc and is 10mo old so we shush her! Dh cannot stand the noise goes right through him!

OchAyeballsintheSky · 27/01/2009 13:42

DD was called Squeaky for the first 6 months of her life. It's normal. At 6 months she became Shrieky, shrieked her way round supermarkets, at the doctors, talk about embarrassing!

Constant squeaking from about a month ago off my 6 month old. I even rang health visitor about it!! Apparently their just experimenting with their voice. I find it quite cute though, its the whinging i find annoying.....

My baby does this! Shrieks and squeeks! Once she did it for a whole weekend. After a while it does grate. I keep telling myself- it's just a phase or practice for toddlerhood!
