with very little information. Dd tells me she has been singing a song at her nursery with the French teacher and it is about a train. Any ideas what it could be (I keep forgetting to ask as the French teacher comes in the middle of the morning once a week)?

Bumping for you.

No idea but will ask my children when they come home from school this afternoon....

No idea, but, for "comptines train", www.google.fr
suggests

"le petit train"
"le petit chauffeur de train"
"roulez petit train"
"dans le pre s'en va le train"

Are there any actions to go with the song? Or any words?

Thanks for the suggestions so far - I'll try them on her this evening. She told me they didn't do any actions (although this info may or may not be accurate given that she is 3 y.o.)

I think "Dans le pré s'en va le train" is the best-known one, but I may be wrong.

How are you, alors???? Survived the storm?

ManIFeelLikeAWoman · 29/01/2009 21:04

Any update on this?

I'm curious now!

AuldAlliance · 29/01/2009 21:23

Me too!

Dans le pre s'en va le train is indeed the song - I can't tell you how delighted dd is that I've learnt it! Btw I found a fabulous website with loads of French songs (complete with YouTube videos for a number of them) - I'll come back later and post the link.

I have another one - if anyone knows this I would be very happy to know:

We have been hearing the one that goes (or so it sounds):
Supermarche
Supermarche
Moon-sang son MOI

whilst marching around in circles.

ManIFeelLikeAWoman · 30/01/2009 14:32

Is that a "real" French song or a song for teaching French?

I'm afraid i don't know any French songs for children about supermarkets.

Mice, and farmers' wives going to market, are my strong suits.

AuldAlliance · 30/01/2009 17:21

I've never heard that one either!
Not quite sure what it means TBH (what's Moon-sang?).
Google not much help either.

georgiemum · 30/01/2009 17:32

I think its really about marching. But when he sings english songs they sometimes get new words (and he won't be persuaded that they are incorrect!).

Out of left field, but it's not La Marsaillaise, is it?

Marchons

Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons?

I've found this great little site - I particularly like the cat singing Une souris verte and dd just loves waving at the children in the train song: www.comptine-enfants.com/comptines-jeu-de-doigts-1593.html
