Dd1 is 2.10, dd2 is 20 months - would I be insane to think I could potty train both at same time!?

dd1 flat refuses to use a potty or toilet seat, so I though I would wait until the spring/summer.

dd2 tells me when she has done a poo, and will be 2 in May.

Has anyone potty trained 2 diffrently aged children? Am I mad to think it would be possible?

Somebody on my post natal board did this with her ds and dd. The younger dd got ythe hang of it more quickly!

Hope she spots this thread

Go for it, you have nothing to lose.

Good Luck - why not try it.

I think they will encourage each other loads

you don't have to necessarily do it all at the same pace, one may get it quicker than the other

(and who knows which!)

I nearly got DS1 out of nappies at 20 months (then had DS2 a couple of weeks later and it all went wrong!)

good luck

thankyou ladies!

I will go for it I think, at the moment it feels as though dd1 will never be out of nappies, because every time i talk about using a potty, or wearing knickers (we went out to buy some Charlie and Lola ones) she just says that she wears nappies. Maybe if dd2 is doing it at the same time, it will encourage her.

Heres hoping!

I have (hopefully) had a breakthrough today with potty training DS1 (27 months old). I previously thought he couldn't control when he would wee and it took him by surprise. But as soon as I said he could have 3 little chocolate animal biscuits if he did a wee wee or poo in the potty - he has used it 3 times this evening / afternoon. This is after several accidents and none on target prior to bribery. I am stunned but don't know if it will still work tomorrow!

Thanks Mumoftoby, I will definately be using bribery as one of my tactics!

I asked dd1 what she thought of using the potty at the same time as dd2 (IYKWIM!), and she got very excited about the idea of sharing out her new knickers with her, so I think I will go for it, but might just wait for the weather to get a bit warmer.

Hi. I have just potty trained DD 2.4 so I know how fussy 2 year olds can be!

I suggest not discussing it with DD1 for a few weekks, let her relax and forget about it. Put the potty and knickers away.

Have a read of Gina Fords potty training in 7 days (ignore the title, we cracked it about 2 weeks with lots of effort. She has some sound advice and there is a section on twins which might help).

Once you are in the right mind set just go for it. Tell them both "no more nappies in the day". Tell them they are big girls now etc and perhaps do a sticker chart etc with DD1 with a reward at the end of the day.

Have identical potties everywhere! And a stash of their fave treats in small pots (as it was Christmas time we used chocolate coins for poos - praise for wees).

DD has had the odd day where she regressed but it was when she had a cold and was tired etc.

Have fun! Give it a week at least and if no improvement stop for a while.

Thanks for all the tips callmeovercautious, you sound very relaxed about it, which is great - it is very easy to get in a stress about these things, and pass that onto your lo's. I will leave it for a bit, I try not to mention it all the time, just when she shows an interest.I'll keep an eye out for the Gina Ford book too - thankyou.

I think you might pick it up at your local library although I bought one for £5 off amazon.

I was stressed before we started but it went quite well (barr wetting herself in Mothercare ). I am only relaxed now as I am through the worst, I noticed today there were no wet/dirty knickers in the bucket when I did the washing
