Hi
Was wondering about this as my ds is eager to get off out with two other children who play out after dark the ages of these two other children is 10 and 9.
My ds has just gone 8 but I just don,t feel happy for him to be out on these dark cold winter nights.
These other two children mainly flick between the ones house just around the block and the other ones house and in thier back gardens but they also go off down to the corner shop and sometimes they are on their bikes.
They have called for my ds a couple of times but I just don,t feel happy for him to be out in the dark.
As it stands he only plays with them at weekends and I bring him in about 4.30pm.
Am I depriving my ds of play though I do feel bad at times about it.

Nope. Mines 13 and she's not allowed out after dark, without an adult.

If they aren't allowed out after dark does that mean they are inside from 4.30 in the winter? How do they get home from school?

janeite · 22/01/2009 19:37

Absolutely not. But then my children don't "play out" - if they are "out" they are at somebody's house or at an activity of some sort, never just "out playing". They walk home from school but if they have a club or something, dp will go and fetch them rather than them having to walk home in the dark.

DS1 gets the bus home - he is at secondary school and it is a school bus, but he has to come straight home from the bus stop - he is home at 4.10pm and DS2 walks home from the village primary and gets in around 3.50pm.

Yes, it means they are inside for the winter.

DD who is 9 in march does not play out after dark.

She walks home from school at 3:05 pm and would be allowed to play out for an hour but as she has a few things on after school chooses not to very often or it too wet to let her (in Scotland!)
