Nappy changing bags

DW rather likes this OiOi , or possibly this

Now, I can handle those designs as changing mats , they're kinda funky, but the bags aren't exactly neutral or manly, are they, and I guess I'm in for my fair share of the brown stuff... Soooo... may I ask the laydees here:

  1. Are nappy bags a stupid waste of money - just use a regular bag and throw everything in...

  2. The best thing since sliced bread... love the Petunia Picklebottom in red brocade

etc.

Could you recommend anything that didn't make dh puke, that perhaps you both could wear - maybe one that was v. well designed and clever (I like things that are well-designed and clever) ?

PS - If you'd like to see me with one of those nice floral prints, please be advised that I doubt my metrosexuality is up to it.

LOL@"inner chav".... don't.... we'll get busted by the PC police.

Actually, I quite like the Yo ! Sushi restaurant on 5th at Harvey Nicks.

I'm so sorry that giraffeski and misdee don't like LV as I've got this three piece luggage set I'm gonna have to take to the dump now...

sorry i haven't read all of this thread ... but wondered if anyone has sussed out where i can get the supernanny or basic baby bags from ????

and has hub2dee decided on which bag to get??!!

Dh did used to use the Samonite slingbag changing bag i had for DD!

Interested in this thread?

blossom2 - I am trying to decide on all three as well!

You can get the supermommy for a good price at ebags.com, the supernanny at ebay (new, there's an ebay shop that sells them) but I cant find the baby bag yet... did you decide the supermommy was too small? that's my thought yet I love it the best.

hub2dee - LV is vile vile vile tat.

misdee - which kipling bag do you have? would love to hear from another cloth user as my excuse for buying one (and forking out upwards of £50) is ours is too small - but measurements indicate that kiplings are smaller!

vickiyumyum · 04/04/2005 19:14

hi hub2dee should have known you'd be causing trouble elsewhere! lol
nappy bags always seem to start off as a good idea but invariably they end up being to small and buy a nice rucksack/bag and take the changing mat from the nappy bag to put in your much nicer bag.
i brought the whole matching kit and kaboodle with ds1 but with ds2 i brought a nice kipling bag and a travel changing mat from mothercare that cost about £3! bargain.
how much longer do you and dw have to decide?
will baby be here before you've place d all your orders?

misdee · 04/04/2005 19:18

i dont have a kipling bag . i do have a baby carrier. its very supportive and snug. havent seen them anywhere else.

also have black kipling cosytoes.

blossom2 · 04/04/2005 19:18

Hi Lunavix - i've been reading your threads about bags too!!

i don't like the supernanny too much but like the size and yeps, the supermommy is just too small. So basic baby it is - but from where?!?!?!

lunavix · 04/04/2005 19:23

I'm considering vickiyumyum's suggestion and buying a normal kipling bag and sticking a changemat in it - I suppose that's all it is! There's so many normal kiplings bags though, and a lot do look like the baby ones....

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 19:23

blossom2: please be advised the hub takes about four years to decide ANYTHING.

OK. Am going for This case in honour of misdee.

Vickiyumyum: DD sproglette should land around early August. Plenty of time.

Might book myself a round the world and come back in time for Xmas... LOL

blossom2 · 04/04/2005 19:25

hub2dee - snap!! DD2 is due first week in august!!

lunavix · 04/04/2005 19:27

hub - you can get ones like that but cooler from makro for £20!!!

vickiyumyum · 04/04/2005 19:30

keep up the good work anyway. if only my dh had aken so much interest we hmay not have spent so much money getting it wrong before we finally settled on workable options.
thankk god for ebay and freeads for selling on all your mistakes.

jojo28 · 04/04/2005 19:48

Hang on it's the Kipling bag that comes with a plastic and nylon monkey attached to it not the Louis Vuitton!

charleypops · 04/04/2005 19:51

hub - what are you like? Hadn't given the changing bag any thought whatsoever so I'll be keeping an eye on this!

I can't believe there's a baby carrier that converts to a pushchair! lol! I like the ones on the Diaperdude website jojo posted. Lol at them being "too rugged" for you! Last time I ate Sushi on the 5th floor a few weeks ago, I puked an hour later won't be going there again!

jojo28 · 04/04/2005 20:06

Charleypops you too?! Same exact thing happened to me about a year ago! Since then I have stayed away from any food that revolves on a carousel!

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 20:08

I prefer doing the research rather than wasting the cash. Don't mind spending more for something that will obviously last, or does the job better, or makes my life easier, or is desperately pretty / well designed...

I find that chatting on MN teaches me little bits of obvious wisdom that you wouldn't get till a tad too late, IYSWIM... for example - aside from all the product discussions - giraffeski mentioned that pushing a buggy with a shoulder bag was a bit tricky if not impossible... now when you think about it, that's pretty obvious, but if you (a) don't use handbags because you're a hairy trucker and (b) have never pushed a stroller, that info is rather useful.

That Zero Halliburton metal case was a joke, BTW...

I think I'm going to use a knackered small backpack / daypack thingy (cost = £0), but buy one of those pretty OiOi changing mats, and go with some kind of drawstring waterproof as suggested by misdee for the dirty cloth nappies.

LOL at charleypops and Yo Sushi - did you just eat veggie ? We haven't been for what seems like forever. DW loves sushi, and I chow down on the veggie stuff... Your puke attack could have been just growth spurt / hormones type stuff though couldn't it ?

OP posts:
pootlepod · 04/04/2005 20:23

Or there are these?

charleypops · 04/04/2005 20:33

I wonder how many others have been sick after a visit to Yo?

I love sushi normally but have to say I've gone right off Yo! after my puking exp. I confess I did have some salmon nigiri and a California roll so didn't stick to the veggie stuff, slap wrists Didn't think it looked as fresh as it could've done though as I was eating - a lot of the cold dishes had condensation on the plastic covers as they were going past for instance. Should've trusted my instincs...

Itsu on Wardour St is lovely though jojo if you ever feel like trying the conveyor stuff again. Think I'll be giving it a wide berth now though until after the baby arrives.

jojo28 · 04/04/2005 20:38

Mr and Mrs Kate Spade have come up with the perfect solution his and hers .

jojo28 · 04/04/2005 20:48

Charleypops check this out! Good grief I must get back to work but this thread is utterly distracting! I do not even have an excuse my ds is 2.5 and out of nappies!

charleypops · 04/04/2005 20:56

Wow jojo - I can't believe you just married sushi with changing bags - you are an internet genius!

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 21:06

The last few links have been quite attractive.

I think charleypops might be a customer but I'm probably bowing out and sticking to scummywear.

at all the Yo ! puke stories...

OP posts:
jojo28 · 04/04/2005 21:15

It is sad isn't it! You can say it charleypops .... maybe even pathetic!? I have a talent for something of no use what so ever... thing is it is better than stuffing my face with a bag of mini eggs which I am prone to doing when trying to avoid work! Even my dog is looking at me with compassion...

Twiglett · 04/04/2005 21:20

actually I've got a baby bjorn backpack

and its unisex (ours is blue) and it can go on the back of a buggy (if it has handles) or you can carry it like a rucksack

I also find it really useful for shoving everything in that you end up needing (including changes of clothes, food, bottles etc) plus your handbagy stuff (so you don't need a bag too)

It is fairly cavernous, but opens wide

Used it a lot with DS (all the time) - don't use it as much with DD (don't really go as far tbh) but still gets used 2 or 3 times a week

a rucksack would do, but I think this just has lots of lovely compartments

eidsvold · 05/04/2005 02:47

as I needed a nappy bag for two - I just went to the local sports store and dh and I picked a backpack/rucksack that we liked. Then bought a couple of plastic zip bags from mothercare which are good for holding each dd's nappies and then throw in the changing mat and whatever else we need - side pockets for wallets, phones etc. Roomy enough for spare clothes, hats, sunscreen, insect repellant and so on.
