Nappy changing bags

DW rather likes this OiOi , or possibly this

Now, I can handle those designs as changing mats , they're kinda funky, but the bags aren't exactly neutral or manly, are they, and I guess I'm in for my fair share of the brown stuff... Soooo... may I ask the laydees here:

  1. Are nappy bags a stupid waste of money - just use a regular bag and throw everything in...

  2. The best thing since sliced bread... love the Petunia Picklebottom in red brocade

etc.

Could you recommend anything that didn't make dh puke, that perhaps you both could wear - maybe one that was v. well designed and clever (I like things that are well-designed and clever) ?

PS - If you'd like to see me with one of those nice floral prints, please be advised that I doubt my metrosexuality is up to it.

I'd agree that they are a complete waste of money. Ahem - I actually won one of these courtesy of Mumsnet but I sold it on Ebay. It was very nice and had lots of lovely bits in it but I knew I'd never use it. My wee rucsac I've had for years does the job just nicely without me looking like I've sucumbed to the baby marketeers!

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 16:13

Hmmm... I wonder if all these teeny weeny baby bags don't actually reflect the sorts of things you need to carry for the first few years... For example, isn't it useful to carry a change of clothes, bibs, toys etc. - maybe a bigger bag would be more more useful than phone / keys / nappy / micro guide to NYC ?

I've fallen in love with the kipling change bags...

super mommy bag here

super nanny bag here

and the normal baby bag here but you need to nose under the 'basic' product line

Think we'd like the black! But they do cute little matching backpacks for the kids too - under the 'basic' line for that last link.

Love it, and at around £50 (if you shop around ) not TOO bad

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 16:33

fuzzy ! I hope you don't have one of those ! Ewww...

lunavix: I think Supermommy looks a bit nasty too. Something about the fabric but the design looks well considered.

Supernanny, seems neat.

I tried the Kipling site this AM and gave up in disgust. Too much flash with mucked up navigation always annoys me.

lunavix · 04/04/2005 16:35

i have directions to the baby bits!
hmm... if hover over product line you should see 'basic', click on that, then 'learn more about this line' on the next screen and all the bags come up! (in a seperate window)

you'll need to go to 'bags' in the scroll down 'chose product type'

and they're on page 20 with lots of baby bits!

Think i'm leaning more towards the 'baby bag' it's like the supermommy but it seems bigger and nicer. Lots of different colours too which is cool.

jojo28 · 04/04/2005 16:36

I love my skip hop bag. You wouldn't know it was a changing bag looks more like a manhattan portage courier bag. But it has this handy strap which allows you to clip it on to your buggy which I find really useful as I am a complete ditz and have real trouble managing all the paraphernalia you have to drag around with you. Sometimes I feel like Ozzy Osbournes roady. On a shallow level it looks really good in black with the urban buggy, of course that was not a motivating factor!! Got it in NYC so that was considerably cheaper not sure I would pay 50 quid - then again I might!!

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 16:39

I battled the Kipling Web site. Super nanny and Basic Baby Bag in anything but red is quite nice. But 'mumsy' but quite nice.

May as well break the bank and lose all sense of style in one go here . Hope I didn't upset you, fuzzy.

lol@hub2dee

all i can say is 'ewwww'...

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 16:45

I can see we have yummy mummies, smug mummies and scummymummies. LOL

LOL at jojo28's ditz and Lua's brainlessness. I am always running around for shades / keys etc. as we leave so it is completely possible dd will benefit from daddy having everything organised. BTW jojo28, I presume there's no chance of overloading SkipHop and watching child fly backwards as Mountain Buggy tips up is there ? (I'm probably going to get the Terrain and the weight distribution is even further back)....

Anyway, I can't believe no one's found a bag that converts into a TVR. Useless bunch.

It's not exactly much to ask, and it's got child seats in the back.

Oh yes, I'll have 2 of those bags from Browns please. Only $390 you say? Marvellous.

I somehow suspect if someone has that sort of money, they ain't exactly carrying nappies around and going to the local mother and baby group...?

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 17:04

giraffe: But if the bag is in the tray - WHO's GONNA SEE IT ?

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 17:14

OMG: This converts from a backpack to a stroller !!!!!!

It looks more complicated than one of those Transformers - Robots in Disguise...

Here .

Quite a good Web site though.

Yawn. Another baby carrier with storage ... I think I'm losing focus...

Nappy bags...

Thought it was going to be so simple...

are you planning on using cloth nappies hub2dee? because if you do then you need a slightly larger bag, and the messy bags that come with standard nappy bags just dont hold a nappy at all. handy for putting washable wipes in tho.

mind you, i do have 2 in nappies and that could be why i carry around a mini suitcase.

i have a kipling babycarrier in the red, and its lovely.

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 17:45

LOL at your mini suitcase, misdee !

Yes, we're hoping for a cloth nappy experience. I do think more space for soiled nappies etc. will be needed.

giraffeski: I think it's all becoming clear... dw wants to buy a fancy shoulder bag so she can't push the buggy. That way she has a buggy pushing slave. Thanks for that small, but wise pointer. Hmmm...

Hub cut to the chase - sounds to me you just want a manbag and thats ok. So why dont you go for this - a bag of your very own and crown your wife queen of the yummies with this baby ! Only retails for about a grand!

for storing wet cloth nappies, just buy a drawstring bag which is waterproof. then get a fancy nappy bag.

i still prefer my suitcase

dh says i have too many bags, but i have several different ones depending which child/ren are with me at the time. smaller ones for one child, tiny ones for when we disposables, suitcase for all 3 girls, as dd1 tends to want to bring things as well. lol.

hub2dee · 04/04/2005 18:16

jojo28 - Are you 28 like Lou's 33 ?

I checked out diaperdudes and found them rather rugged. Perhaps for Noel Gallagher rather than hub2dee.

But you've fu**ed me with that LV link. DW's gonna read all of this when she gets back and guess who'll be dragged to LV at the top of Sloane Street, kicking and screaming till I puke ?

What is it with laydees and LV anyway - please - all LV haters flood this thread NOW.

Nasty branding, average quality. You can keep it anyday.

misdee · 04/04/2005 18:18

Ha ha ... don't tell that to Jade Goodey! Come on get in touch with your inner chav it comes in blue too! Definitely no room for real nappies maybe just a bottle of Cristal and the latest copy of Heat... Prada does a diaper bag too you can hit them and then lunch at Harvey Nics, wonderful darling!
