I was thinking of sending ds once a week to start with then i was going to increase it gradually(he's nearly 3)

Anyway that was the plan till i rang up to put ds's name down and the play school manager recommended that if they start off with 2 sessions they settle in quicker.

Don't know what to do? obviously i want ds to settle in quickley but i thought it would be better done gradually, what did you do?

I started off with 2, as I thought if I did just 1 it would be too much of a gap.

I would tend to agree with the manager - My DS started on 2 and he settled really quickly although i realise every child is different.

My DD started at pre-school when she was 3 and a half (I'd waited until the place was free, then there a delay over the summer). Anyway, it worked well and she settled in very quickly. She increased in stages until she was going 5 days a week before starting school.

We were also advised by the pre-school to do consecutive days so that she didn't 'forget' between one session and the next, but that didn't fit with the other things we used to do during the week. Besides, I wasn't convinced, because if you do consecutive days that means a six day gap and that also gives plenty of opportunity to 'forget'.

We did Tuesdays and Thursdays to start with (dd was nearly three and ds just three when they started)and upped it until she was doing four sessions a week before school. That worked for us.

LittleB · 21/01/2009 20:41

dd started with 2 sessions, as that was recommended, she did Monday&Tuesday pm when she was 2.4, she's now 3.8 and has been doing 5 sessions since september, she does mon& Tues pm still, plus all day weds and thurs am.
I think 2 sessions per week would be fine, dd really enjoys hers.
