19 month old asking to use the toilet and potty, yet doing nothing?

my 19 month old is requesting to use the loo (and potty), but when getting there isnt actually doing anything.
she did one wee for my hubby, but i dont think that was intentional more a timing thing.
im not pushing her into training, she has decided to do this herself, and wouldnt wear a nappy this morning. she has been on and off the potty all day, but the only thing she has managed is a fart lol!
one accident this morning in the high chair, i think cos she was absorbed in eating, shes had two naps and had wet nappies after that, one poo in the nappy after her main nap.
so if she is happy this way do i just keep doing what im doing?
or do i insist she wears a nappy?

i dont want to end up doing more harm than good by training too early, or making her wear nappies when she doesnt want to.

im a bit confused! not had this problem b4 as my nearly three year old wont train at all!

if my ds refuses to wear his nappy I go with it, he is either nappy free then until we leave the house or if he does have an accident I offer him a nappy and often find he then accepts it quite happily.

I would go with what she seems to want, of course you aren´t going to want to force her to wear a nappy if she is saying no (unless maybe you are going out in which case it´s the old "we all have to do things we don´t want to" ). Maybe you could also offer the potty occasionally to help her realise when she might need one e.g. when she wakes up, after meals, when she hasn´t been for a while.

I taught my ds (20mo) the sign for potty and he picked it up immediately and uses it very reliably. He is still in nappies out of the house though, always.

ah she has perfect speech so she wont need the signs, she was signing at 9 months and i agree its a really useful skill.
she seems to be ok about putting one on for going out, just likes to be completly naked indoors
