Embarassed of poo but keeps doing it in pants

Hi there. Id love some advice please.
My ds2 is 2.5 and decided on Sunday to stop wearing nappies! Well he wont use a potty but does like the toilet and seemed to be going when he needed a wee. However I cannot get him to poo in the toilet or potty, he keeps doing it in his pants and gets quite embarassed.
He doesnt like looking at poo and doesnt like talking about it eg: tell mummy if you need a poo, he just talks over me.
Also today he had a wee accident which he hasnt done since the nappies came off.
Im very proud of him, hes doing a good job with his wees but am a little concerened about his pooing in his pants.
Ds1 was dry day and night just after he turned 2. I certainly dont compare the two and understand that ds1 was very quick which is quite unusual.
We've read books like "its ok to poo" which he likes but they dont seem to be working.
Any ideas?
Thanks

no help im afraid but very similar thread not so long a go and your not alone

my ds will wee has done since 2.3 but will not poo in potty or toilet only a nappy and also doesnt like to look at it

there are a lot of children with the same phobia i guess patience and time will cure it my ds is now 3.7 and we do send the poo swimming from nappy and we wave it goodbye so hopefully he'll begin to feel its ok and more comfortable

Thanks for bumping.x
How funny, we also wave goodbye to the poo and say off you go for a swim.... honestly the things I come out with.
He is quite a sensitive soul and doesnt tend to mix too well with children and is very shy around adults.
It'll come Im sure, with time....

lets hope so my cousins little girl did this until 5 im hoping we can stop before then but im sure its quite stressful really something that is normally covered up whipped away and bagged up probably feels wrong some how for them

we had a couple of months of this with DS - he really, really didn't want to poo, would always say he didn't need to, then after days of holding it in would poo his pants.

He is fine now.

I think that what worked was a combination of very matter-of-fact approach from me, DH and the grandparents, and sending his poos 'for a swim' in the loo, which he thought was funny. Oh, and bribery (pooing chocolates for a sucessful potty poo, even if only part of a poo actually made it to the potty and the rest was in pants).

Well we've started a sticker chart today, one for a wee and 2 for a poo. Might give him a choccie button too if he manages ao poo on the toilet.
Ill report back...

Glad to see we are not the only ones with this issue. DS1 is 2.10 and been doing wees standing up into the toilet since 2.7 when he started copying a friend. He rarely has accidents and can go for 2h car journeys without issue. He seems to have a poo phobia though... he'll hold it in for days and then do it in his pants. He's not embarrassed by going in his trousers, he just will not entertain the idea of sitting on the loo or potty. He just refuses and tries to hold it in more. I am going down the bribery route..he wants Lofty from Bob the Builder, but I'm not sure if it'll work.
Will be interested to see everyone's progress

my son will not poo unless he has a nappy on or his pants either. before i found this website i felt so frustrated and alone. he,s been using the toilet to pee pee for months he,s 3 and a half and now he,s dry most nights it,s just that final hurdle !!

DS is very reluctant to sit on potty even when farting a way and poo seems very imminent. It often ends up in pants. Has got a bit better since we introduced chocolate buttons. i think part of the problem is actually getting to the potty in half a second when he decides he needs to poo. When i whisk him over at the first sign he doesn't seem to bad about it .
Have made a bit of a fuss and mentioned each evening whether or not he was successful with potty poo so he knows it is important and this seems to help a bit.
