dd (3) suddenly doesnt want to go to nursery. any tips

she started in September and has always loved it. then all of a sudden this week she doesnt want to go in, culminating today with a heartbreaking desperate tantrum on the doorstep, with tears on both sides... i was ready to take her home (the softie that i am) but the nursery teacher said to leave her and 5 minutes later they called me to tell me she'd calmed down. then they asked me why she's behaving like this- made me feel atrocious, as i was going to ask them the same thing... i don't know what's going on.

she's already been saying that she doesnt want to go tomorrow morning and i don't know what to do.. should i reason, bribe her, drag her, or just leave her at home if she doesn't want to go?

Has anything changed at nursery? new children? new teachers?

She may have thought when she finished for Chrstmas, that was it and she wouldn't be going back, so she's cross that she has to.

I think if you can't get to the bottom of it by talking to her, you should talk to the nursery staff, they should be able to spot any differences and how she is reacting to them.

My Ds was exactly same with pre school round about November. Really shocked me as had been great from first day and i left in tears one day. Staff were fantastic and worked with me to get to bottom of it. Turned out he couldn't understand why other mums sometimes stayed and i didn't (parent rota and i haven't had turn yet). 2 min chat solved it once we'd got to bottom of cause. I'd stick with it short term and work with staff to find out what has changed. Good luck.

I had that with my 3rd and it threw me completely as he is a very happy, confident little boy normally.

Every day for nearly 2 weeks we had tears from him and me. He couldn't tell me why other than he wanted to stay at home with me.

One of the staff made him a chart so that if he came in with a smilek, he got a sticker for his chart.

I had this with my dd but she is fine now. I think that there was a group of them that strated saying it and it became a buzz phrase. Also since some of the children left to start school she feels that there is soemthing better out there but that is just that age group I think. Sounds like you are doing everything right good luck
