Dp told ds something very stupid today.

Dp has this game with ds where he says he is scared of... insert scary thing such as monster, spider etc and dp will say - I'm gonna beat that up.
I have often said this is a stupid thing to tell a then 2yo and now 3.5yo.

He had stopped saying it until today...

Sister looks after ds while I work 2 days a week. She has a 1yo and they all have lots of fun and it is a great set up.

Sister told ds off today (from what I can make out ds hit her dc in face accidentally). Dp picks him up from sisters and when ds relays the telling off to dp he replys with don't worry daddy gonna beat her up! FFS.

When I have spoke dp about this he dismisses me saying I know I was only joking... I knew as soon as I said it I shouldn't have.

I am really pissed off at dp for delling our ds this.

but he didnt tell your ds to beat her up, he clearly isnt going to and he didnt mean it, things like this sometimes slip out by accident, my dad is always threatening to knuckle my dc, as long as no actuial beating up is going on I would let it go.

I'd be pissed off too. A 3.5yo can't be expected to understand 'it's OK for daddy to hit auntie/it's not OK to hit people/daddy wasn't being serious'.

I would ask DP to explain very clearly to DS that it was a silly thing to say and that he would never beat anyone up, and certinly not his SIL...and furthermore that he must indeed be careful not to hurt his cousin!

If DP won't do that, I would stick to a 'daddy was JOKING. He was being SILLY' etc - so not exactly criticising his pov, but turning it intosomething that should not be taken seriously. I would also say 'and it isn't nice to say it to other people'

That is pretty much what I have done. Just really annoyed.
