Any good tips for bringing up wind?

dd2 is 4wks and rubbish at feeding without getting totally full of wind which is very hard to bring up. We spend ages patting and rubbing her back and tummy over my shoulder,upright and on her belly. Any other ideas as its making feeding hard work!

Are you warming the milk?
I found holding baby very straight and just press just under left arm pit or in base of back, we didn't do much rubbing as ds was very sicky.
Also try laying down for a moment and sitting her up slowly

I would also second the laying down, and then picking up and winding, it does help. I used to do it a few times during the process!

Im breastfeeding so milk is pre-warmed! Will try the pressing thing, thanks. This is the problem with dd2, if she doesn't bring up all her wind we have the biggest projectile(sp) puking ever!!

Sorry, didn't realise you were bf. I only mentioned it because the warmer the milk the easier the wind comes up. A lot of ff mum's give milk at room temp, as did I when started but changed because of the winding issues. Hope it sorts out soon.
Is fennel water supposed to help? Does it warm the stomach slightly? Maybe giving a little drop pre-feed?

try moving her side to side - the tummy is a strange shaped organ and wind collects in strange kinks and moving side to side moves it out of trapped places. The MW in hospital said to tip our DD rapidly onto her left side and then upright (one short sharp movement) to move the wind to easy to relieve place. It worked!!! so we do a rapid left and up then gentle side to side then another left and up and back onto the boob!

Like coconut, I'm for the rocking, or even moving her top half round gently in a circle (like she's doing a hula hoop whilst sitting down) - kinda hard to describe without you being able to see what I mean

I was shown an amazing way to get wind up but it's gonna be really hard trying to describe it to you without showing you - but here goes:
sit dd on your lap and with thumb and ring finger support under her armpits (or just one armpit if she's not a teeny tiny babe) and with other fingers under her chin tip her head right up as if she's looking at the ceiling - then with your other hand use the palm of your hand to push in her back quite firmly (have you ever noticed when your burbing a baby over your shoulder you can do little back compressions? It's doing that while their sitting) and stroke upwards from the base of her spine repeatedly - imagine your trying to show 'correct posture' to someone slouching in a chair: back straight, shoulders back and chin up, then with the extra back compression (firm but gentle) you create a straight and easy passage for wind to just come rolling out!
I hope that makes sense?? If you get it right it's an absolute gem - never fails! My daughter used to get bad trapped wind and a friend of mine showed me the technique - her midwife had shown her and swore by it!

Also, it's worth trying a few of the wind relief remedies on the market - different products work better for different babies, it's just finding the right one for your dd. Personally infacol was a life saver for us - takes a few days to get working but worked (I was breastfeeding too)

I'd sit dd on my knee, facing sideways from me, and jiggle my knee as if I'd trapped a nerve. I'd bend my foot up so weight/pressure was on the ball of my foot and the jiggling would be very gentle, but quite quick. At the same time, move my outstretched hand from the base of her spine upwards, like fairysparkles says. And lean her forwards. If it doesn't work, lean her backwards slowly, so lying back, and then forwards again.

I found winding midfeed also helped with DS. And overshoulder (so slight pressure on tummy from my front) and gently rubbing back wored a treat on him too. And cycling legs if its trapped bottom wind...

Oh, and drinking fennel tea or camomile tea again for some reason seemed to help with his wind (he was a VERY windy baby until around 8 weeks and then all of a sudden got much more efficient at burping himself thank god).
