Which is better for 7 year old - Nintendo Wii or XBox?

OK, so we have finally caved in and agreed our 7 year old DS can get a games console. What does everyone recommend? What are the pros and cons of each.

NB PS3 is not on the list, as it's too expensive.

I would have said a Wii. From what I know of the Xbox, the games seem more adult and not really suitable for children. My brother loves his Xbox but plays fairly intense games on it. There seems to be a wider range of games for different ages on the Wii. We love ours

We have both and our 8 y/o plays on both, but the x-box is really DH's.

You can get alot of kids games for the x-box, but I still think the wii is better for children. Much more of a family console, and you will probably feel more comfortable joining in with the wii. You'll be addicted to tennis before you know it

A wii, deffo

We have ax Xbox - there are some v good childrens games actually but it is also for adult gamers and also for utter nerds like my dh.

I'd go for the Wii. It is more family fun, and at least gets them up being active whilst playing and playing together with friends, rather than sat in a chair pressing buttons on their own,

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2009 21:29

a wii - games are more active and more fun for a child.

gigglewitch · 14/01/2009 21:30

the wii.
definitely
my 5yo and just-8yo are loving it.

Wow, thanks for all your replies. So the Wii is definitely winning the vote. I like the idea of it being more family play-based, as DS is an only child, so will have to put up with playing against me or DH and we're both total gaming novices. He's going to be all over us isn't he?
