If your lo had curly hair was it still curly after you cut it the first time?

My dd is 16 months and has gorgeous curly hair which I'm really hoping will stay if we ever cut her hair. You hear so often that curls disappeared - just wondered how often they stayed?

Still curly at 2.4

My DTD2 had a number 2 all over at the age of 2ish. It came back curlier than ever.

My ds' curls turned into stylish scruffy indie boy band style hair when cut.

And my dd has recently developed curls as her hair has grown longer and longer.

Both had typical cherub curls at 16m(ish) especially ds. He had golden curls still now he is cool.

No (sob) my lo's lovely blonde curls disappeared forever never to return and now his hair is poker straight.

littlelamb · 12/01/2009 08:34

No. My dd had mental curly hair that was just impossible to control. Everyone said it needed cuttign and I finally relented and got her a bob cut last year when she was 3 (at Toni and Guy Grandparents paid ) and she was like a different child! Her hair still has its moments but for me I don't miss the curls, purely because it looked like I never brushed her hair

After my DS's (nearly 21 months) most recent haircut his curls disappeared because his hair was so short. I was gutted. But now they've come back and he still has his halo of golden curls. I think once curly, alwys curly. I hope so anyway.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 12/01/2009 09:17

no dds's curls went when I had to cut hair hair to try and stop her pulling it out

it didn't work and I wish I hadn't done it

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/01/2009 09:20

DSD's curls are slowly disappearing each time her hair is cut. She is 5 now and has loose waves rather than curls.

ohdearwhatamess · 12/01/2009 09:33

Ds1's curls disappeared with the first proper cut (at about 2.5 years).

Conversely, I was born with poker straight hair, didn't have it cut until I was about 8 years old, and then it went really curly.

Lulumama · 12/01/2009 09:36

DDs curls definitely dropping out at 3.5 as her hair gets longer. still crazy hair, but not the ringlets it was

OrmIrian · 12/01/2009 09:38

Curls disappeared, but it stayed wavy.

Gateau · 12/01/2009 09:38

I suppose it depends on whether the curls really are just 'baby curls' or whether they are inherited and so are here to stay.
My hair is wavy/curly, so I'm hoping DS's will stay that way.
I'm however peeved that his hair is getting darker. It's still blonde but getting darker nonetheless. ROll on the summer for it to lighten up.

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 12/01/2009 11:08

Thanks for all the replies. DH and I have slightly wavy hair but my dad's hair was curly so fingers crossed these curls are here to stay.
