I potty trained DS1 when 2.6 in 3 days. I did as advised. With every accident I told him not to worry it was only an accident, we'll try again next time to use the potty. Lost patience on day 3 when he opened his legs, had a wee on the carpet and said oh dear mummy will try next time on potty. At that point gave up with nicey nicey and told him I was cross and this was not a good thing. He seemed to understand that better and from that point on tried to get to the potty with every wee. We had a few misshaps but pretty good after that.
I had already decided not to tackle nights, but on the 4th night he chose not to wear a nappy. We've never had a night accident but I think I'm just very lucky. He's now just coming up to 4.
I'll do exactly the same thing with DS2 when it's his turn.
Good luck.

Thanks have decided to stick with it for now. He goes to nursery in the mornings while I work, and has been using the potty for them so I think it is more a battle of wills than anything else. There is so much advice its hard to know what to do sometimes.

You must stick with it once you've started, as they soon work out, if I don't do as told, mummy will give in and I get nappies. Once they realise that you won't budge, they give in and atleast try. I did praise him and he got 1 choc button. Once he got the hang of it, we then did a chart with stickers and bought him a 50p car when we did our weekly shop. We only did that for a month, but it worked for us.
Good luck

My ds was exactly like that when first started (in September at 2.11). Started to get somewhere after a week in pants and pretty much completely sorted after 3 weeks. Still has the odd minor accident but more along the lines of a dribble before he realises than a full on flood.
