I have a funny story about an avid Horrid Henry fan.

My bf's DS aged 5 used to have a nature walk at school every friday where they would take their wellies and go into the nature area.

On one particular friday, the teacher pulled my BF to one side and explained that on their nature walk her DS had found some worms and put them down his pants!

DS was given a tough word or two by teacher and BF, however on the way home BF asked why he did it and he explained 'Well Horrid Henry does it!'

I agree with a lot of these posts. But in the end they're the first books that have got ds reading on his own with enthusiasm, that has to be the final factor for me! He does really love him.

I think the Horrid Henry books are great and so do many, many children - hence their success. I once used a Horrid Henry extract with a year 4 class to demonstrate the use of metaphors. They loved it - even at year 4. I got some fab work out of the children in response to it. I especially like them for ds2 as his teacher was reporting (via the reading record) that he lacked expression when reading aloud. Horrid Henry has fixed that, he loves the narrative sections and reading each character aloud in different styles. I think they're great.

cornsilk I found my ds half an hour ago reading HH in his room because he couldn't get to sleep. A year ago that just would not have happened so I do agree, if it gets them reading then so be it!
