Why, oh why, oh why, won't he potty train?

DS2 is now three and we have been potty training for MONTHS!

We've had breaks, we've had weeks in normal pants, another break and now in pull ups but he just will not do it. He has never ever done a poo in a potty. He will wee if I put him on one or on the toilet but he'll as easily wee in his pants 10 mins later.

He poos in his pants and lies when I ask if he has, running away laughing.

In short he is a nightmare.

Should I just give up and come back to it in a few months?

DS1 was potty trained as 2yrs 4mths.

Should also note DS2 doesn't sleep through the night, doesn't eat vegetables, doesn't do what he's told etc etc

bumping for you

i would give up and try again later.
i strongly feel that there is absolutely no point trying to potty train a child who isn't ready.

I think there seems to be 2 elements

  1. He's not ready to poo on the toilet
  2. He does this to get a reaction from you.

Put him back in nappies and completely forget about it for several months.

I think you must be right. It's just all the other boys he knows have been trained for months. Just feel he is the kind of child that will always be contrary and if I let him I can see me posting the same thing when he is 4!

I too have also given up potty training my 3 year old ds, because I got so frustrated with the accidents! I'm leaving him to tell me when he wants to wear pants (he says he likes wearing nappies, I give up!) hopefully, we will train before school. Just to reassure you, you are not alone with reluctant potty trainers.

Eventually he may decide he is desperate to be in big boy pants. I would try reverse psycology on him ie you let it be known to him that you want him in nappies and to do his poo in nappies type of thing.

Buy ds1 some much desired by ds2 character pants - is there anyone he is really in to?

I think you have my son's twin. except he won't wee in the toilet either. I haven't even started to seriously toilet train him [bad mother emoticon]

Glad to know I'm not alone. This morning he categorically would not sit on the potty. Five minutes later he did a wee all over the rug.

Happy New Year by the way
