IMHO a full size single bed. That way, if you ever need to get in bed with him you can, in relative comfort, and sneak back to your own bed as soon as you get the opportunity! Much better than these tiny beds, where he would end up in bed with you! You can always make the bed at the bottom (ie with the pillow half way down )if you want to make it feel smaller.

My DS went straight to proper single bed when he was 2.5. We already had a couple of very low single beds that we used a spare bed in the past. We just used one of them with a bed guard. We used a full size single duvet but we used it width ways instead of lengthways and tucked the ends of the duvet under the side of the bed so he was a bit like the sausage in a hot dog. Kept him very cosy and stopped him kicking off thte duvet so much.
