New fluffles not absorbing - any tips?

I got some new fluffles from TKMaxx a couple of weeks ago but they don't absorb anything like the old fluffles I've got. I getting fed up changing ds's trousers because of leaks. They've been washed probably a dozen times. Any thoughts?

microfibre doesn't really need washing to increase absorbency unlike other materials.
You're not using fab softener or Bold detergent are you?

No, I'm just using a wee bit of ecover. If I use an old style fluffle booster in a new style nappy the booster is soaked but the nappy is just damp.
