My DS2 is 2 1/2. I have been toilet training him for two weeks and all was going swimmingly. Very quickly got the hang of it. When he needs a wee he goes off to the bathroom no bother. The first 'poo' he referred to as a 'stink' so i have stuck by that. He did 'stinks' for 3 days.

But...........2 weeks down the line 'stinks' have become a huge problem. Avoids going altogether. Then gets in a state and starts jumping around and 'oohing'. Gets very upset, then eventally does it in his pants. I dont get angry, I just explain gently that he must use the toilet or potty.

I have tried the following

putting a nappy on him when he is showing signs

bribing with choc

sitting on the toilet with him!!!

Now running out of ideas and am at a loss what to do. I dont want a phobia developing.

Please help????????????????

Maybe he's just not ready? I know all children are different but with my two boys I waited until they were nearly three. He obviously seems worried about doing poos and his choice of word makes me think he has a problem with the idea of it being "dirty". I'm no expert and maybe a HV or the GP could help but I think it's really important that you let him know that its perfectly natural, everyone does them etc!! Good luck ..

I'd try adding a little more fruit/prune juice/figs to his diet so he loosens up a bit. Sounds like he's perhaps been a touch constipated so it's been difficult to get out or he's been engrossed in something and not gone when he needed to but hung on. Then watch like a hawk for signs of a poo and suggets the potty and stick him on the potty quick, or get a new DVD out of the library and sit him down with the potty alongside you to watch, then when you think he needs the potty you can say oh this is a good bit lets carry on watching you can sit on the potty and then we won't miss the good bit of the film
