silly question but...

is it normal that my baby makes a lot of grunting noises when he goes to sleep at night?? He has almost always done it i think, maybe not the first week though (he's 5 wks now)
He stretches and grunts and breathe heavily and moves his hands around a lot when he goes to sleep. He odes that much more at night than in the day (for his naps).
is that normal or should i get worried??

My ds was like this and he was so noisy that we moved him into his own room at 5 weeks as i was waking up exhausted as he kept me awake even though he wasnt awake.

I would say it was normal, unless he is clearly uncormfortable i wouldnt worry about it

I'm sure its within the range of normality - especially the arm waving, although you are lucky that doesn't keep him awake. My ds used to flail around like mad when he was really small but also hated being swaddled.

Like most other things twas just a phase!

Normal for my DS- I didn't know so much noise could come out of a tiny thing when they were trying to settle. He is still a noisy sleeper and snores at 2!! I had to move him into his own room quite early (4 1/2 mths) as it was driving me mad. Sleeping on his front did seem to help a bit (at about 6mths- he used to roll over himself) and now is quiter if on his tummy. Do you swaddle him? My DD used to wake herself up hitting herself in the face until I swaddled her.

'quieter'- he is not a 'quiter', too sodding stubborn. Oops.

totally normal and was the reason my adored baby got booted out of our bedroom within a week by mean nasty light-sleeper DH!! seems to have survived the experience though - now 5!

god yes i remember this. it does get better. hang in there!

DS2 is a snorer (8 mnths old) & likes to thrash around a bit when you put him in his cot even though he's fast asleep in your arms beforehand!! DS1 does something we call kicky-legs. When he was a baby he would literally lift his legs off the mattress & smack them back down again until he fell asleep. He now just rubs his feet up & down his mattress as he falls asleep or wakes up. He doesn't do it every night now though - he's 6! Both DS1 & 2 are sharing a room at the mo as Granny is here & the noises that come from that room are amazing. What with that and DH's snoring there's no hope for me!

the baby that i am working with at the moment is very noisy. He is quiet until his feed at 12 - 1 and then spends most of the rest of the night grunting and moaning.

It sometimes stops if i pick him up but not always.

On the nights that I'm not there, his parents hold him the whole night so that they can get a bit of noise free sleep!

glad to hear it is normal!I had the feeling it might be but we were just wondering.. you know... better safe than sorry!

I had a leg kicker too - when went away and stayed in a mobile home, she made the whole thing rock! Another was very noisy and grunty and didn't last long sharing the room with me as I couldn't sleep through it.

Yep, sounds like my DS. The snorting and stuff is because their throat and nose passages are still a bit floppy - he sounded a bit like his grandad snoring, and he has broken his nose several times. DS is 14 weeks old and over that phase.
