How long do I have to hold my DS wee wee while he pees?

Hi-that title probably sounded funny, but my 3.9 year old ds finally learned how to go potty but he refuses, first, to pull his own pants down and underwear, second, he refuses to hold his own wee wee -- actually he doesn't even pay attention when he's peeing, he's singing, or messing with my hair, or whatever...I tell him "look, look down so you can learn"..."look how mommy is holding it"...I heard once they can practice hitting cherrios cereal in the toliet but I haven't tried that yet. Anyone have this and how long will it last. If I know my ds, I know that I need to repeat something for months and almost scold him before he decides he's ready to do something (like potty training-its been going on since he was 2.5)...

My ds1 age 4 is quite lazy and always wanted me to hold it for him. He only started to hold it himself when I refused to do it for him anymore. He weed down his leg a few times before he seemed to realized he needed to point it in the right direction! Even now if he gets distracted things can go astray. The other day half way through a wee he turned round to talk to me and it all went up the wall!

hmm, never have, leave him to it, he'll soon get the hang of it. if he wees on the floor get him to clean it up.

My six year old still doesn't hold "it", he just dangles it over the top, pees all over the seat and most of it hits the pan.

Then again, his dad isn't much better either!

If he is going in the potty i would make him sit to wee, to difficult to aim into potty.
Much easier in toilet as his penis can just kinda lean over rim of toilet.

Get him to sit while he wees and don't let him stand until he's prepared to do it properly. You could also try those smiley face ping-pong ball thingys, they really helped my DS's aim. I never held DS's willy when he was potty training, it never occurred to me. It possibly would have helped to prevent a few messes.

You can get little things to help them aim. some are things that float, or you can get stickers etc. Ebay is probably your best bet.
