Partly stealing the idea from our chat thread, what has been your best and your worst nappy/nappy related purchase?

My best was getting my XS Sandy's.

My worst was a kiwi quick flip that I have not once used, no idea why I bought it!

Oh, but my most disappointing purchase is the wet bag I got second hand which is totally un-waterproof

Bamboo (i think) kiwi quick flip, took ages to dry and had to use a nippa which never ever stayed in place.

The velcro terry kiwi was actually fine and Dh quite liked that one.

Changed my mind I bought a birth to potty Bambino Mio set in 2002 and it was horrendous looking back. I'm surprised we didn't go over to disposables really.

I have kept some of the prefold which I use to stuff pocketbots for my toddler, but otherwise I packed it all up and gave to a mum off moneysavingexpert who was struggling to afford them.

emilyandjohn · 14/12/2008 10:40

Can't remember which brand, but an all-in-one that my chunky 2 year old burst out of every time he took a deep breath

HolidaysQueen · 14/12/2008 10:44

Love my bumgenius - they even converted agnostic DH to the joys of reusables and he now evangelises about them to work colleagues

Hate the totbots wrapper I bought when trialling various nappies - looked very cute with its yellow and white spooty effect, but gaped ridiculously at the legs - would probably have gaped on a toddler never mind a 6 week old!

jeee · 14/12/2008 10:47

Cotton Bottom covers from poundland costing (gosh) £1

belgo · 14/12/2008 10:57

My best were the cheapest - a belgian nappy called a strikluier -(meaning ribbin nappy). It's a flat nappy that folds around the baby and you use the ribbons to tie it in place. They fit perfectly and don't leak, and also dry very quickly because they are flat. They cost about 3 euros each. here is a link.

My worst purchase was far more expensive - all in one nappies (cover and nappy together), no brand name because they are home made by someone. They are huge and bulky and leak.

hedgeHogfather · 14/12/2008 11:01

my best - fleece blanket from Ikea (1.59) to make liners
worst - Mothercare smart nappies - Small were too small for DS but Medium are too big

Andthentherewerethree · 14/12/2008 11:06

best were the bumgenius for reliabilty and ease of use, were my fail safe night time nappy when boosted with a hemp liner as well as the micro liner. but then i love the wee notions one size pockets as they worked so well and looked so gorgeous.

worst for us were happy heineys and fuzzi bunz, they alwasy leaked on the first wee no matter how much or how little stuffing and could never get a good fit on my skinny legged dd.

i was totally adicted to cloth and must have tried most brands out there, actually am a bit sad that she potty trained so early so i didn;t get to try soem on my wish list.

PoinsettiasScareMe · 14/12/2008 11:52

Ooh I love quick flips.

One of my best - baby bufters - not slim, but I love the cut

Worst - 1st gen bumgenius (later ones are good), or bambino mio

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 14/12/2008 12:04

Best nappy is sandy's for dd4 and bumgenius v2 for dd3
Worst nappy is anything by kooshies!

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 14/12/2008 12:20

Best for me was probs my sized happy heinys and fuzzis when ds was shiny and new - worst was my shaped nappies when he was shiney and new and i soon switched fully to pockets. Greenkids Minkytimes are now my faves and i am having a little love in with a itti bitti dlish atm too.

sorkycake · 14/12/2008 14:48

Oh I forgot to add my fav's, probably swaddlebees organic cotton velour's- one size.
Jamtots weren't too bad either but they were very small and only last the first 9 months, mind you he was rather tubby.

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 15/12/2008 14:19

Worst purchase - Bambinex bamboos. THey're not BAD per se, but I just don't quite GET them. Love the Sandy's, and Bambinex Teddies.

Sorky talk to me about the Velour Swaddlebees. Been thinking of buying one to try, but they are Soooo expensive

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 15/12/2008 18:23

Worst: Bambino Mio trial pack (thank God only a trial and not the lot!) A Minki and a Slinky Minki - what's that all about?

Best: Baby Beehinds, Ella's House Bumhuggers, BumGenius, Itti Bitti D'Lish.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 16/12/2008 22:07

I KILLED the thread!

lollipopmother · 16/12/2008 22:17

I thought it'd be more popular than it was I have to say! How come you like the Baby Beehinds? I've got one but I just don't get it, I can see the leg elastic isn't even close to touching her legs which is exactly the same issue as with the Bumhuggers and it really gets on my nerves.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 16/12/2008 22:25

Worst: Fluffles. Cuddly and fun for about three washes but nowhere near as absorbant as cotton. And a Popolino wrap that seemed much tougher than ME ones but now leaks right through the middle of the wrap (not edges wicking, have checked)

Best: Tots wrap bought in a cashflow crisis with birthday Amazon vouchers meant for novels - surprisingly good. And some old-style size 1 Totsbots with the sewn-in booster & liner I bought secondhand - why have they stopped making them?

Those 'ribbon nappies' are Disana tie-ons - very lentilly and less than £2 a pop...

lollipopmother · 16/12/2008 22:26

I have the old style Tots Bots, I love the fact that they have the fleece liner sewn in, I hadn't realised that isn't the case any more.

xcited4xmas · 16/12/2008 22:27

pampers active fit

lollipopmother · 16/12/2008 22:33

Is that your best or your worst?! !

You've made me realise what my worst was though - Huggies. God they were awful. Their wet wipes are absolute rubbish as well, they were the final straw and I started using my own wipes after that.

OP posts:
christmascliff · 16/12/2008 22:37

Huggies !! don't soak up anywhere near as much as pampers.
Think all you lot using real nappies are very brave - well done ! sorry i'm a disposable user

lollipopmother · 16/12/2008 22:42

Nothing wrong with being a disposables user Cliff, it's what works for you. Personally I was sick to bloody death of poo coming out of the legs of the 'sposies and also at how expensive they were. I use Little Swimmers for Water Babies and it reminds me once a week why I hate 'sposies, they just feel so cheap and nasty somehow yet actually cost a fortune

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 16/12/2008 22:55

best purchase.......ella's house bumhuggers for absobency. Tots bots cotton for all round useability. The new tots wraps are fantastic imo, and don't leak, even though they are a bit gapey at the legs.

worst purchase...bambinex teddy (sorry flame!). Can't see why people think microfibre are thirsty as this was soaked after one wee and was sooooo bulky on.

too many nappies that I haven't tried yet though and this thread is just giving me ideas!!
