Partly stealing the idea from our chat thread, what has been your best and your worst nappy/nappy related purchase?

My best was getting my XS Sandy's.

My worst was a kiwi quick flip that I have not once used, no idea why I bought it!

Can I just say I am quite new to cloth nappies so cant really say what is good or not.
I am sick of disp though I have dd 22 months, ds 16 weeks. have been changing both in n ight due to leaking.
ds is in Bimbles, bumbles and tots bots. I am happy with them all so far.
I bought a little lamb trial. not too keen.
I have just bought some fluffles for dd at night. She was soaking by the morning, possibly due to the wrap. not really sure.
I use ME wraps with ds, not had a problem at all, however used a mio wrap today that I got as a package second hand to try and he was soaked straight away.

MrsBadger · 16/12/2008 22:58

fluff;es are shite for night ime

boost yr bumbles with an old flannel or two

no1putsantaupthechimney · 16/12/2008 23:03

Thanks for that I will try.
I only used it that one night last week as was told they were great for all night use

just bought a new pack of them as well and cant use for day as she wont get in any clothes as they so big

xcited4xmas · 16/12/2008 23:05

that was my best and i think that the pampers wipes are the best too the only ones i will get they clean everything! but i do agree that huggies are a load of rubbish i used to find they leaked poo especially when ds was bf as a baby b4 moving on to solids and my worst wipes are johnsons they just feel like wet tissue to me?

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 16/12/2008 23:23

Lollipop, maybe we have chunkier legs in my house? DS2 is 2+ now and Baby Beehinds were a revelation to me - they still feel lovely and not-too-sopping in the morning. I love Bumhuggers too.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 16/12/2008 23:23

tesco wipes diabolical.....you pull one out and they just keep on coming so you have to stuff em all back in the hole!

best switch we made was to washable wipes.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 16/12/2008 23:28

For sposies I HATE Pampers - they STINK. Quite like Huggies and I LOVE Huggies fragrance free wipes.

Would need another mortgage to use Moltex regularly. Bambo are nice, as I recall, but not easily available in shops and can't be doing with mail ordering disposables. Found Tushies completely the wrong shape for my kids.

Favourite disposable: Nature Babies.

Bienchen · 16/12/2008 23:44

OK. Rubbish for us: Kooshies (were given free, so at least did not waste money).

Loved: Baby Beehinds BTP bamboo and Nature Babies stuffables (they are HUGE but never leak). Fuzzi Bunz old style are ok, too and are used when DD goes to childminder.

Swaddlebee organic velour ok but DD is a heavy wetter, so may well sell this one.

MrsBadger · 17/12/2008 08:49

no1, sell them quick before you use any more

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 17/12/2008 09:42

Sorry No1 - I think it was me saying I use Fluffles at night wasn't it Although I still do, with a microfibre cloth stuffed in the fleece pocket.

Swampster - the slinki minki no good? Damn, I just bought one, it's arriving today. Also have a couple of Nature Babies Stuffables and wonderoos arriving today.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 10:43

I was stuffing my Slinki Minki with prefolds which I have come to the conclusion are good only for wiping floors. I'm sure microfibre or hemp or an old sock would have been better.

Blue Slinki Minki with spiders on it and stripey Minki, both large, good used condition, going cheeeeeeeeeeeap !!!

jeee · 17/12/2008 10:52

Kooshies were lousy (bought them myself too), but with the help of motherease/cotton bottoms covers used my first size Kooshies for all 4 of my DC, although the plastic outer bit was completely shredded by the end.

HensMum · 17/12/2008 10:58

Best - BumGenius. Wish I'd bought loads of them and used them exclusively. Eco Bumbles (think that's the one - v cheap and stuffable) also excellent.

Worst - Boots all-in-one. Only bought them as they were v cheap but bulky and leaky. Mothercare Smart Nappies also completely rubbish. It's a shame that the high-street brands aren't better, more people would probably use resuables if the good nappies were easier to get hold of.

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 17/12/2008 11:01

I think the High street sabotages cloth nappies. They just sell terries, prefolds and a few rubbish all-in-ones. People have to really do their research to find the really good nappies. I think there should be a Real Nappy Awareness campaign to let mums know what's out there.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 11:27

Mothercare (HATE that shop!) actually does sell BumGenius but online only, I think. But agree with you, it is really hard when there's nowhere easy to go touch and feel a wide selection of fluffies.

lollipopmother · 17/12/2008 21:39

Swampster - I used the Beehinds again last night, I am really impressed with its absorbency, I used the big tongue folded and a bamboo fleece topped booster and the outer part was only wet in patches, much much better than a Bumhugger, but it's those legs that stop me from buying more at the moment although I am very tempted.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 21:47

Yay! Beehinds rock! I always use both boosters snapped in and stick a booster on the outside between the nappy and the wrap - whoever it was on here who suggested that, I am forever in your debt.

lollipopmother · 17/12/2008 22:22

How old is your LO Swampster? I think I always thoroughly over-boost my nappies but I've not got round to as much as you yet! DD is only 13 weeks.

OP posts:
ilovelovemydog · 17/12/2008 22:30

best Sandy's extra small - lasted for both dd and ds and sold for about a third of what I paid for them

worst Tots Bots Bamboozles. Absolutely dreadful; leaked, zero points for containment and ages to dry.... generally, um, pants...

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 22:34

He's two-and-a-half Lollipop and compared to his brother is NOT a heavy wetter!

Bienchen · 18/12/2008 07:21

lollipop, if you have a really snug wrap then the leg bit is not so much of an issue. That's why I am still holding on to a few of my old Nature Babies Stuffables, they have gusseted legs and I rarely have an accident.

lollipopmother · 19/12/2008 22:02

Bienchen - The poo from the Bumhuggers never comes out of the wrap but I just hate finding that it's come out of the leg, my Sandy's never once leeked so I think I've been spoiled a bit, but I just dislike the Bumhuggers more and more each time I use them.

OP posts:
Bienchen · 20/12/2008 16:16

Sell them on, some nappies are just better for your DC than others.

I have sold a lot of outgrown nappies in the summer and that has helped moving DD into the next size. I also bought additional supplies as the Beehinds are slow to dry, so are not so good for us in the winter months.

lollipopmother · 20/12/2008 20:22

Yeah you're right, I should sell them on, I bought three brand new only 2 months ago and they've been used in rotation so I shouldn't lose too much money on them.

My DP took DD downstairs when she woke this morning to give me a lie-in, I only woke up at 10.40 because a friend called my mobile! He then looked after DD whilst I went out for some last minute errands, I came home and he'd put my newly purchased Blueberry Minky on because he liked the look of it - he wasn't sure what insert to put in it which was fair enough as it wasn't made up and all the nappy stuff is everywhere at the moment, he'd put a fleece topped booster in it bless him but I was quite proud, at least he realised it did actually need something in it and also didn't bother to put a wrap over the top ~(although that may have been a fluke!)
