he has reflux and have bought an amby bed off ebay as we used on with ds1 and helped loads. Anyway i put him in it and he crys and wont settle. Picked him up and put him on sofa and he went straight to sleep. DH rekons it coz its new. But he hasnt had a problem when i put him in other random places to sleep..

is he just being fussy or is it because it smells of other people??

Presumably you washed and cleaned it all, so getting rid of any smells of the previous owner.

Perhaps this baby just doesn't like the feel of it.

Ds had reflux and never took to the amby. Neither did my sister's ds (also reflux).

I think for some it just doesn't work.

there isnt anything else he can sleep in.. have tried the moses basket in various propped up states and he isnt settled. I was hoping this was going to be my saviour so im bit distraught about it. Dont know what else to do with him

Have you tried swaddling him tightly?

ib · 11/12/2008 19:34

Loads of sympathy but no help from here I'm afraid - ds only ever slept on me for the first few months (until he went on medication)

mad4mybaby · 11/12/2008 19:36

yes swaddling ok but its getting him propped up at the right angle. im not sure his basket is comfy? have tried padding it..

could he be missing your smell?

can you stick a pillowcase or jumper or something or yours in there?

juuule · 11/12/2008 19:45

If the moses basket is on a stand have you tried using something (books?) under the legs to raise one end?

mad4mybaby · 11/12/2008 20:01

i dont have it on a stand as i have active 2 yr old and dont trust him. have put things under matress or underneath te basket but he just ends up in a little heap at the bottom!

I think at 3wo if you prop one end then it is going to result in the baby sliding down into a heap at the bottom

Might help if you move the baby so that it's feet are already at the bottom of the moses basket and the swaddling is tight/padded enough to keep it's legs relatively stiff.

I saw on the baby whisperer once these foam blocks that you literally velcroed the baby onto to keep them propped up. I was a UK version of the program so presumably you can get them here but I have no idea where...
