Can anyone advise how best to learn BSL?

I'd like to learn to sign. As I have an unpredictable work schedule, I'd find it hard to go to a regular class. I was wondering if there was anything on-line which you would recommend? Or any other method of learning? Or do I really need to go to a class? thanks.

You really need to go to a class, or meet a Deaf person happy to practise with you. It is v difficult to learn without someone who knows how to sign well, as the handshapes can be tricky, plus the structure and context are different to learning other languages, so it doesn't always make sense.

thanks for that catrin, I thought that might be the case.
Will go see what I can find locally which can be flexible enough to suit my work schedule.
Thanks.
