Does 5yo DD need a pair of boots this winter?!

DD had some boots which I thought essential for winter (the sort of boots you can wear indoors) but we had to take them back as they were faulty. She complained all the time about the zips rubbing her leg and now I come to think of it she said the same thing last year. So instead of boots, I'm wondering whether she really needs some at all and whether I could get her something like this instead: look at the 4th item down, the purple Noel Amelie boots...

Would they get her through winter? She could wear wellies if/when it snows, I guess? I feel silly that I can't answer this question myself but she's always had boots for winter and I haven't tried not having them!

i never had boots for winter and I survived lol.

i don't think they're a necessity at all

She is useless with tights and I love being able to put socks and boots on, knowing that her legs will be warm that way... I suppose we could just get to grips with tights though It's so annoying that I had to take them back, she looked so cool with her pretty Boden dress and chunky biker boots

I never had boots either. But I did get dd some lovely ones brown suede ones from Gap, they were £12 in the sale iirc (which starts again on Xmas Eve btw) and they are quite a wide fit around the leg, so no rubbing. She would happily wear her crocs all year round but now she would choose these every day instead so they have been worth it for us. Some of the ones that we tried on in Clarks were ridiculously tight around the legs though and she is pretty skinny.

What is wrong with a good pair of school shoes for everyday and a pair of wellies for when the weather is bluerch - she is only 5!

Mine have only ever had 3 pairs of shoes at any one time (including wellies!)

Do you walk everywhere or go buy car - We walk and mine still dont need footwear for every occasion

Buy yourself a nice pair of shoes instead

DD wanted boots until she saw patent ruby red shoes! She wouldn't touch tights last year and wears them every day this year-don't worry, she will be fine

They are her school shoes btw , she has party shoes and wellies, and ballet shoes, so nearly the same as you yurt.

Yurtgirl, I don't want her wearing her school shoes every day - it's not good to wear the same pair of shoes every day (they need to dry out!) I also think they're too cold to wear outside when it's really icy out. She has never had many shoes - in the summer she had school shoes, party shoes and trainers, but her trainers don't fit anymore. Like your advice about buying myself some shoes instead I think I will just get some closed-in ankle boots. Thanks everybody!
