Would you leave a 14YO and 15YO babysitting a 2.5YO for a few hours?

DP and myself are tryng to sort things out between us at the moment and we were saying we really dont get out much as a couple.

I suggested we go out once a month for a meal or to the pictures or something. My mum has 3YO twins and works int he morning so she can't take him unless it was at the weekend.

My only option is to ask my 14YO brother and his 15YO friend to babysit for a maximum of 3 hours probably on a Tuesday night, was going to give them a tenner and I think they are responsible enough and I wouldn't go out until my son was asleep.

We are a bit unsure about it though not because we dont trust those 2 but more because I dont want anyone thinking we are bad parents for doing this would you do it?

I certainly used my oldest DCs to babysit my younger ones (similar sort of age gap) at that age - is less about the age of the teenagers and more about what they're like; if you absolutely trust them to behave responsibly, then go for it and have a good night out

For one, I think each teenager needs to be judge individually on how responsible they are. Some are still very immature at that age.
He is your son's uncle so wouldn't imagine he'd ever let any harm come to him and as long as you kept your mobile on and weren't too far away jut in case, there shouldn't be a problem should there? If you are happy with it, why not?
I let my 12 year old niece take 8 month old ds shopping with her for an hour or so with her 10yo brother. I'm not a bad parent, my niece and nephew are just very sensible for their age and i knew where they'd be.

I've used kids this age to sit, if my kids knew the sitters, and if I knew the sitters very well.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with 14/15 year old babysitting if they're trustworthy and responsible. It doesn't sound like you're planning to be out late.

I used to babysit at that age, so dont think there's anything wrong with it at all.

Thanks all I was braced for a flaming there

My mum has asked them both to babysit the twins before and they ahve been great so I totally trust both of them and I know that both of them are very responsible especially when it comes to looking after kids.

Would probably only go out from like7.30 until maybe 10-10.30 at the latest and wouldn't be drinking obviously so will be fine.
