Which school shoes actually last?

After clarks lasting DD about 5 weeks we moved onto Startrite.
DD is now getting through around 2 pairs of these per term through scuffing the toes until they break
Has anyone else had the same experience & can you make any suggestions please? This is starting to get very expensive!
Told DD millions of times to stop scuffing her toes to no avail!!!

DS1's sainsburys ones lasted most of last school year (his feet hardly grew and they were good fitting on him)

I used to work in a childrens shoe shop and i would always recommend the kickers brand. They are quite bulky but were the brand with the fewest returns

karise · 06/12/2008 13:46

Are they wide fitting- we struggle particularly with the instep?

Kickers can be wide fitting, depends what style you go for

TBH, if your DD is deliberately scuffing the toes you're stuffed whichever brand you buy.

DSs both have Clarkes and (even though they're boisterous boys) they often last 2 terms if their feet haven't grown.

Anyone know where I can buy steel toe caps then?

I was going to say Startrite but seemingly not!

Kickers (but they are ugly).

Last year, Ds1's Hush Puppies lasted 2 terms and I probably would have ignored their slight tattiness for the 3rd term if they had still fit! This year, his Clarks were new in September and are still looking fine - a bit scuffed, but that's expected I think.

I always found clarks last until they were outgrown.DS had one pair a year, think you have been unlucky.

DoubleBluff · 06/12/2008 14:37

Depends on the sstyle of shoe tooo.
Both DS's had Clarks one pair still looks smart the other the stitching has come undone and look dreadful

Kammy · 07/12/2008 18:04

Marks and Spencers. Seem immune to football, scuffing and general boys games.

DS has Geox, they are great but not sure if they do girls school shoes. So probably not much help to you!
