Just a bit of fun to ease the deadline tension. For me it's:

People texting
My tutor drinking his 3rd coffee in an hour and a half
Random students walking in

Any more?

I'm no longer a student, but immediately thought of a lecturer who regularly removed his glasses, licked the lenses, then wiped them with a somewhat grubby handkerchief.

Ick!!!

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 04/12/2008 23:04

yuk Yohohoho....shudder

The lovely French students who whisper very loudly in French during lectures...

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Yep.

We were all nauseated, but it held this hideous fascination and we couldn't look away. The whole room would pause, transfixed every time.

KittyFloss · 04/12/2008 23:07

I fecking hated it when at certain points in the lecture they required you to work with the people next to you etc to discuss/solve some problem. What is the point, leave it for bloody tutorials, just get on with the droning and let me snooze study lol

beanie35 · 05/12/2008 08:40

One of the other 'mature' students in one of my classes snorts throughout the lecture. He wipes his nose on his sleeve, then continues sniffing for the next hour. Also he never washes, so you can smell him even before you see him! The teacher is too polite to say anything, even though he totally disrupts the lessons. Laughable part his he has string holding his trousers up, but manages to afford a top of the range laptop. We're all planning on buying him a box of hankies for xmas!!

dylsmum1998 · 07/12/2008 17:52

beanie, thats gross.
i dont mind working with people in lectures- if they are the ones i've chosen to sit with, some of them bug me as they chat about random nonsense!! LOL i dont mind random nonsense but not when i'm trying to think

my biggest pet hate tho is people talikng and giggling all through the lectures- sooooooo distracting

XmasLollipopViolet · 07/12/2008 19:15

Lecturers who are overly chirpy at 9am lectures. A little chirpy is fine, but "Hellooooo how is everyone this fine Monday morning!" type chirpy lecturers need a slap lol.

For me its the earnest person who saves in depth and relevant questions to the last minute when you have packed up and are ready to leave.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 08/12/2008 18:23

well...
I hate all those people that come to late and trickle into the lecture one by one for the first half of the lecture...now I realise everyone can have a problem at one time or another...that is fine...but it's the same fecking people every fecking time....and those usuaally can't even manage to be back in time after a break in the lecture....I mena, really it is NOT that difficult to be on time....makes me want to scream...

I hate, hate, hate all those people that feel the need to constantly talk through the lecture....you don't want to learn, well, piss off and leave those that do want to listen to do so in peace...simple...

I hate it when people ask stupid questions....and by stupid I mean those kinda questions that were actually answered already, and if they had actually listened to the lecture they wouldn't have needed to ask.....

I hate it when people constantly interupt lectures by asking or challenging the lecturer and often by relaying personal expeirences....whilst there is a time and a place and sometimes a valuable contribution....a lot of the time it is disrupting the flow of the lecture....

I hate to sit near smelly people in lectures....I know sometimes they can't help it, ....other times it is nothing that a regular shower and regular change of clothes could not remedy....

I hate people packing there things together and talking loudly whilst the lecturer is still talking....just because their watch shows it is the end of the lecture....

I hate it when I am already freezing and the lecturers have to open every single window to give us all oxygen....well...oxygen is not gonna make me think better if I am to busy shaking because I am so cold I go into hibernation....

well...that feels better ....I was just int he mood for a rant ....have you noticed !

We have one guy who puts on his little confused face and asks lots of questions, that to the rest of us are obvious. He has a totally different background I suppose but it drives me mad, he seems to doubt everything, he always starts with I hear what you are saying but......

We have another guy who bounces in his chair, bad enough when you are onthe other side of the room but when you end up sitting beside him it is torture.

People from other courses nicking your seats, our class has it all sussed, I sit in fron of the heater as I am a big woose, some sit near the door as they are always late, some sit at tables where they can text away under the table unseen, all organised, then you arrive and some strangers have taken our regular seats .

Me last week coughing a lung up, so bad I had to leave the class and throw up .

TinselianAstra · 08/12/2008 22:32

There are only two types of questions that get asked during lectures:
*the stupid questions that have been answered if only they had been listening
*and the 'look at me, I'm so clever' questions that serve no purpose because the person asking knows the answer and the rest of the group hasn't read the very obscure paper that is being quoted

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 08/12/2008 22:49

lol Tinsel...you said that rather eloquently....

and skrimbo...sorry to hear about that bad cough.....but lol at the seating...yes, me and my friend always try to sit in the front....don't care if I look like a swat....I don't go to Uni to waste my time listening to frivolous chitchat...I could stay at home for that....

TinselianAstra · 08/12/2008 22:57

Thanks

Of course it's not at all because I spent a lot of time thinking about it when I should have been listening to the lecture.

Seriously, in a hall of 250 people why do people think their question can't wait until the end?

harpsichordcarrier · 08/12/2008 23:00

oh god never speak in a lecture
how rude
I can't be doing with chummy chummy anecdotes from lecturers
just get on with it

skrimbo · 09/12/2008 00:19

I had a couple of workshops recently here the lecturer just really didn't sell it too me, it really cam accross that he didn't know the subject all that well, project management and he was't up to date at all and didn't know at PRINCE software, neither do I but I ain't teaching it.
