booster or booster with back?

DS about to move from forward facing seat to some kind of booster. Have already bought booster with back but doesn't fit v well in car with other seats. I've been trying to find the source of what I was told in mothercare, that they don't recommend simple booster up til 7 years. This isn't in the law and I can't even find it as extra advice. Anyone know?

how old is ds, how tall, and rough weight?

I would say a high backed is always best as it provides side protection & seat belts falls across lap correctly.

I'm not sure of legal requirements, this is just from my experience.

DD can legally sit in a booster without a back but when we did this we weren't happy with how the seatbelt lay across her neck! We put her back into one with a back. Looks much more comfortable an looks safer!

DS is almost 5 but short and 15.5Kg. Has travelled in friends car on simple booster and looks ok. I agree would rather see him in booster with back(hence why I bought it) but struggling to fit. Just trying to find the origin of the advice, seems legal to be on booster but if there is evidence that much safer with back then will have to think again

I have a booster with a back that can be removed when the child is ready - I think it says the child must be more than 22 KG, but obviously the height of the child would also be relevant as already said by other posters.
