Would you pop to the shop when your DC is asleep upstairs?

I wouldn't but after a conversation with some Mums I have started to think I am in the minority.

The shop is a 1 min walk down the road and the DD is child is one year old and asleep in a cot. You need some milk and you know the baby won't wake up for at least an hour or 2. Could be home within 5 mins.

Do you think it is ok to go? I have never done anything like that but it was pointed out to me this morning that it isn't much different to chatting outside with the lady across the road for 5 mins or going out in the garden etc.

What do you think?

It everyone one choice as a parent and mine is NO NO NO. if that makes me a bad Mum then so be it.

NEVER NEVER NEVER, anything could happen.

thatsnotmymonster · 03/12/2008 19:34

I have considered it but have never done it. However, I have cut the grass in our enormous garden when all 3 dc's have been napping (aged 3, 2 and few months). So basically I wouldn't hear them if something happened and it takes about 2-3 hours to cut the back garden. There's no way I could do it when they were awake and it was so wet this year that I had to do it if it was dry.

Surely that's worse than popping out for 5 mins- would you like to tell SS about it

v good point TNMY I think.

Who has ever taken their eyes of their kids whilst out somewhere public? Park / Farm / Zoo etc? That would freak me out.

We all have thing we do and do not do and will find others ways of doing stuff odd / frightening etc.

Exactly! I don't know how many times I've spotted children in cars NOT wearing seat belts. I would never even consider doing that but others obviously do.

chloemegjess · 03/12/2008 19:59

I think the whole seat belt thing is so rediculous. How long does it take to put on a belt? 20 secs? But then a lot of people would also use a car with no car seat.

I know people who would be more than happy to put their DC in a car with no car seat. Not all the time, but if they were say in somebody else's car. I would never do that and would rather get the bus. But then again, you don't need them in a cab for some odd reason which is exactly the same as a car?!?
